My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Pearl: A Shining Light Looking for Her Happily Ever After

Pearl is a resilient little lovebug who's ready to leave her heartbreaking beginnings in the past. She and her brother Boe were found abandoned in a cage behind a gas station -- but despite it all, Pearl has the sweetest heart and a playful spirit that refuses to be dimmed.
This beautiful pup is full of bounce, curiosity, and affection. She adores playtime with Boe, enjoys meeting new friends (both human and canine), and is eager to please. Pearl is smart, spunky, and soaking up every bit of kindness she's shown.

She's already spayed, fully vaccinated, and doing great with the doggy door routine. Now, she just needs a foster or forever family to show her what love looks like every day.

Pearl would thrive in a home where she can continue to learn, play, and feel safe -- she's more than ready to be someone's loyal best friend.

Additional adoption info

This Application is the first step in a process that we anticipate will culminate in the placement of a healthy and temperamentally-sound animal into your home as a new family member. Steps two and three respectively, will be a veterinary check (your veterinarian will be telephoned and asked about your previous record of treatment and care of your pets) and a home check, where a member or representative of (Colleen Crossan or Patrice Shearin) will visit your home to ascertain the suitability of the living quarters for your new pet and to suggest any safety features that you may not be aware of in providing a safe and secure home for your newest member. All members of the household as well as all other pets must be present for this visit. Please don’t view this as judging. We simply want to ensure that the pet is going to a great home. A virtual home visit can be arranged.

More about this rescue

Freedom Fences is a volunteer-run, 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Upstate South Carolina, working to save dogs and cats from neglect, abandonment, and euthanasia. Since 2010, we've focused on reducing the number of pets euthanized in Anderson, Oconee, and Pickens Counties through hands-on rescue, community outreach, and lifesaving transport.

We started by helping outdoor dog -- especially those chained with little shelter or space -- by offering free kennels, improving living conditions, and advocating for better animal welfare laws. In 2014, we opened The Wag Shack, a small, no-kill shelter for dogs in urgent need. We ensure every dog receives vet care, spay/neuter surgery, and love -- then find them forever homes locally or through trusted out-of-state rescue partners.

In 2016, we expanded our mission to include cat rescue. Today, we care for 25–30 adoptable cats in two cage-free facilities: The Catty Shack and Meow Manor. All cats are fully vetted, spayed/neutered, and ready for loving homes. When local adoptions aren’t possible due to overpopulation, we transport cats to rescue partners up north -- at no cost -- so they can find the families they deserve.

We may be a small team, but we believe every life matters. One adoption at a time, we're making a difference.
