My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

🐶 🐕 COSMO Male Border collie mix 5 months, 35 lbs & AVAILABLE – check out more photos and see the rest of our dogs on our website -- https://norcalbcrescue.org/available-dogs/our-dogs/ 🐕 🐶

Meet COSMO, a 5-month-old chunky-monkey, fluffernutter of 35#. Yep, he’s on the big side and his has the energy and enthusiasm to match! He bounds through life and is learning that all parts of his body need to go in the same direction. Imagine what it’s like to be the size of a full-grown herding dog with the brain of a puppy! (His nickname is Baby Huey!)

COSMO is growing up fast, and he needs to continue to be challenged and directed. He was picked up stray in a rural county and it seems as though he got little direction and attention in his previous life. In his foster home, Cosmo quickly learned to sit before being released from his crate and to go through doorways. He has learned to ride nicely in the car to and from the vet’s office and on longer road trips. He has been very well-behaved at the vet’s office. Everyone there loves him. And he is a dreamboat for a bath. He is crate-trained, and as long as he is taken outside regularly, he doesn’t have accidents in the house.

COSMO seeks attention from people and other dogs the way small children seek candy in the candy store. Gimme, gimme. Because of his size and bounding energy, he is not a candidate for a home with young children. He loves other dogs, and would benefit from living in a home with another patient adult role model. Cosmo likes to flop his body on top of other dogs, bite their ears and steal their toys - there’s that Baby Huey goofiness again! We don’t know about cats.

COSMO has so much potential! He loves toys and treats and is motivated by both. So, for someone who enjoys training and has training experience and patience, Cosmo will be a very rewarding partner and a really fun pal. He will benefit from positive, game-based training, but also from clear and boundaries and expectations, as well as lots of exercise and activity.

COSMO is micro-chipped, neutered, heartworm negative and on preventative, and up-to-date on vaccinations. If you have an approved Northern California Border Collie Rescue & Adoptions Adoption Application (https://norcalbcrescue.org/adoption/adoption-application/) and wish to inquire about COSMO, please email us at Adoptions@norcalbcrescue.org. If you have an approved adoption application with Border Collie Rescue of Northern California let us know and we will request it be forwarded to us for consideration.

COSMO is fostering Orangevale in Sacramento County, CA.
