Hi, I’m Red! ❤️🐾
I’m a big ol’ goofball with a heart full of love and a whole lot of energy! I’m still young and learning, so I can be a little hyper and excited—okay, very hyper—but I promise I’m trying my best and improving every day.

I’ve been around older kids (7 and up), and I love them! I haven’t met any toddlers or babies yet, so I’d probably do best in a home with kids who can match my energy. I get a little nervous when meeting new people, but I warm up with time and patience—and once I do, watch out, I’ll be your best buddy!

I’m potty trained and I’ve already learned some basics like sit. I still need help learning to keep my paws on the floor and not jump on people, but I just get so excited to see everyone! I love walks (even if I zigzag a bit because, hey—smells!), and I’m super toy-motivated. Give me a stuffy, ball, or chew toy and I’m in heaven.

I also get along with other dogs and just want to play, play, play. I love to give hugs, be close to my people, and when I finally calm down… I turn into the gentlest, most content boy. Seeing me relax and feel safe is truly special.

If you have a yard to run in and the patience to guide me as I grow, we could be a perfect match. I’m ready to find a forever home where I can be silly, snuggly, and totally loved.

Could you be my person?
This dog is currently located in Chicago's southwest suburbs and can be seen by appointment once an adoption application is completed and approved by the rescue. Please note that we cannot hold dogs for any reason.

If the dog or puppy is not yet fully vetted, we can only consider applications from adopters within an hour's drive or 40 miles of Lemont, IL, due to required vet visits at our partner veterinarians. For fully vetted dogs or puppies, we welcome applications from out-of-state or beyond the 40-mile radius.

Please only apply if you are ready to meet and welcome a new companion into your home within five days of approval.

Breed and Age Information:
Unless the puppy was born in our care, we cannot guarantee the breed or age. Breed and age estimates are based on veterinary advice, shelter records, physical appearance, and information provided by previous owners.

The adoption fee includes:

Spay/neuter (performed at one of our partner veterinarians as scheduled by the rescue)
Microchip
Rabies vaccine
DHPP vaccine
Bordetella vaccine
4DX test (Heartworm, Anaplasmosis, Ehrlichia, Lyme Disease)
General wellness care, including deworming, heartworm prevention, and flea/tick prevention
Your adoption fee also helps support medical care for other rescue animals, including heartworm treatments, surgeries, and emergency care.

Spay/Neuter Policy:
We spay/neuter dogs at 16 weeks or older, at the discretion of the rescue and in consultation with our partner veterinarians. While some veterinarians recommend delaying the procedure based on a breeds projected size, as a rescue, our primary goal is to prevent unwanted litters. Spaying and neutering also provide significant health benefits, including cancer prevention and reducing behavioral issues.

The American Animal Hospital Association and the American Veterinary Medical Association support pediatric spay/neuter for cats and dogs as early as “16 weeks. We carefully assess each case to determine the best timing for the procedure.

More about this rescue

MISSION
Our mission is to be a voice and a home for dogs and cats who do not have one. To provide love, care, and shelter for those who have never had it or have lost it. We believe all animals are deserving. We will rescue, protect, vet, and provide hope as we search for loving forever homes for all animals that come into our care.

PURPOSE
Ruby Whiskers Animal Rescue, based in Lemont, IL, is dedicated to rescuing, vetting, and rehoming animals from shelters and other abandoned situations. Operated by dedicated volunteers and supported by foster families and sponsors, our goal is to provide the necessary veterinary care, grooming, and love while finding them forever homes.

GOALS
Successfully rescue and rehome dogs and cats from kill shelters and other abandoned situations.

Spay/neuter all animals that come into our care.

Grow a foster and volunteer network.

Support and educate the community of the importance of spay and neuter.

Keep pets with their families by providing assistance with pet food, training, vetting, or any other pet related issue, in order to keep them together and out of the shelter.

Educate adults and children to build awareness, responsible pet ownership, and the importance of spay and neuter for all animals.

Advocate for stronger laws regarding animal welfare, cruelty, and puppy mills/pet stores.

Help decrease the homeless/abandoned animal population to in turn reduce euthanasia rates at shelters and animal control organizations.

PHILOSOPHY
Successful RWAR adoptions depend on strong relationships with committed volunteers, foster homes, local veterinarians, and trainers. Through these relationships we will be able to rescue hundreds of animals every year and provide them with loving temporary care and carefully-matched forever homes.

SUPPORT
Best Friend’s Animal Society NO-KILL 2025 Goal

Reaching no-kill by 2025 means that every shelter in our country is getting the community support it needs to save every dog and cat who can be saved. *When a shelter is saving at least 90% of dogs and cats entering that shelter, it is designated as no-kill.*
