My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Huey: Your Perfect Adventure Buddy
Huey, affectionately known as Baby Huey, is a 4-year-old, 90-pound web-footed retriever mix with a heart as big as his size. For three of his four years, Huey has been waiting patiently in rescue, hoping to find his forever home. Rescued from a high-risk situation at a kill shelter, he's now safe but still longing for a family to call his own.
Huey's Health and Temperament
All Vaccines: Up-to-date with all necessary vaccinations.
Microchipped: Huey is microchipped for easy identification.
Heartworm Negative: Regular health checks confirm he is heartworm free.
Neutered: Already neutered and ready to join your family.
Huey is a friendly, active, and playful companion. His love for life is infectious, and he gets along well with both kids and dogs. However, due to his size, he might be a bit too much for smaller children and tiny dogs, as he doesn’t quite realize his own strength. Huey is fascinated by cats but needs supervision as he can play too rough with them.
Skills and Behavior
Leash Skills: Good on a leash but requires someone strong enough to handle his enthusiasm.
Car Rides: Huey loves car rides and is always ready for a road trip.
Fence Friendly: He respects boundaries, neither digging under nor jumping over fences.
Water Lover: True to his retriever nature, Huey adores the water and would thrive in a beach environment.
Good Recall: Huey responds well to commands and has good recall, making him a trustworthy off-leash companion in safe areas.
Adoption Opportunities
Despite being chosen multiple times for adoption, Huey has been left behind due to changes in potential adopters' situations. He's available for adoption or fostering through Barking Mad Animal Rescue. Huey is a really, really good boy who deserves a chance to experience life outside of the Texas heat, perhaps on a beach where he can indulge in his love for water.
If you’re looking for a loyal, fun-loving companion who will fill your days with joy and laughter, Huey could be the perfect fit. Let’s find Huey the loving home he has been waiting for and give him the adventures he truly deserves!

More about this rescue

BMAR is a No-Kill facility: a place of safety for healthy adoptable animals, a home for the homeless, a haven for the mistreated, neglected, or abused animals of Sabine & surrounding counties. BMAR also runs a sanctuary for those deemed unadoptible due to medical and behavior issues.

100% Volunteer Rescue. We have no animal control, Humane Society, or SPCA operating in our area leaving animals in dire straights.

BMAR is dedicated to the prevention of cruelty & abuse to all animals & livestock.

We currently only adopt to states and Canada where we have a network in place to monitor animals and help with problems.

BMAR backs it's dogs for life and will take back no matter how long and at any time if circumstance arise and you cannot keep your pet.
