My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet MICK!! Mick is a 3-year-old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel mix is our best guess, weighing about 20lbs. Mick came from atrocious beginnings and was quite feral, which has led him to lack some social queues and likes a more independent lifestyle. Mick has been in rescue for two years and has been working hard on socialization in foster for the past 6 months. If you are looking for an independent low maintenance dog, then we believe Mick could be your guy! Mick can be left in the home when you are gone as he usually just sleeps in a comfy spot. He can be kenneled, but it is not his favorite thing. Mick can use a dog door and can be independent on his own in a securely fenced yard. Mick is learning to be potty trained and is 95% able to make it outside, we are so proud of all the training Mick has done. Mick is independent and prefers to do his own thing but does get excited and does an adorable tail wag to greet you when you get home. Mick is not known to be an affectionate dog. He allows you to pet his head and will boop you on the leg to get your attention. Mick is learning boundaries and continues to improve with tolerating paw handling and being touched in sensitive areas. Mick has gained a lot of confidence since starting his socialization training in rescue! Mick is not a fan of being picked up and prefers all interactions on his level. Mick attends doggy daycare twice a week and is gaining a lot of confidence. Mick enjoys the companionship of another dog but does have some herding behavior when it comes to playing. Due to Mick’s independence in his play he does not choose to play with other dogs but does mind the companionship of another low maintenance dog. Mick is also good with cats in the home. Mick is learning to be confident in the vehicle and does hop right in! Mick loves going on walks and will wag his tail the whole time. He is continuing to learn leash skills regarding putting on and taking off leashes. Mick is very observant and pays close attention to his surroundings and will watch you for direction. Mick has also been tested camping and does well on a long line. Mick has a goofy personality and gets very excited for dinner time and will bark and play bow. Mick has a ‘cat-like personality’ and does his own thing without seeking out human interaction as he is more reserved in his personality. Mick would do best in a home with older children/teenagers who would respect his space, and he does have a tendency to have herding behavior.
It is unclear what Mick’s past was and we do believe he has a high herding drive when in the home. This at times will cause him to nip. We need someone who is understanding of herding behavior and is patient enough to work through his shy personality. Mick does have the ability to nip when cornered or scared, like we all do. We have seen him herd other dogs when playing and excited and he will nip. When cornered he could freeze and when rushed could be scared and we want to ensure he is set up for success in his forever home. Due to this we are looking for a knowledgeable home in herding behaviors and a home who is patient with Mick regarding his shy demeanor and letting him have his needed space.
Mick is neutered, UTD on vaccines, microchipped, and dewormed. Homeownership is preferred, fenced yard is mandatory for the adoption of Mick. This rescue will not adopt out to individuals with unaltered domestic pets in the home.
If you feel you are able to give Mick his much needed forever home, please contact us. We know Mick requires a specific adopter and we are very optimistic we will find his happy ending! Please help us share the word on Mick Boy!
