My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Skittles, a young, energetic dog with a zest for life! He`s not only playful and curious but also incredibly smart and sweet. Skittles loves to cuddle, making him the perfect 50-pound lap dog. He already knows the come, no, down, fetch, and off commands. He`s leash trained and crate trained, which means less hassle for you but he needs help with house training. He loves making friends wherever he goes. A true social butterfly, who never wants to be alone, Skittles loves playing with other dogs and is wonderfully patient and gentle with children, while he politely ignores cats. Skittles thrives on friendly interactions and enjoys an environment where he can explore and learn. He enjoys agility, car rides, running, fetch, water, tugging, toys, chase, and wrestling - particularly with his doggie friends. If you`re looking for a loyal, quiet, protective companion who is ready to join you on every adventure, Skittles is your ideal match. He does have a cheeky side, showing off his playful begging, occasional chewing habits, and jumpy excitability. He was adopted three times and returned - once because he was not suitable for apartment life and twice because they couldn`t give him the attention he needs and deserves. He needs a family devoted to his care who will provide the security and training he has not had a chance to get so far in his life. Adopt Skittles today and experience boundless joy and unconditional love! (tw 12/19/2025)

More about this shelter

Citizens For Animal Protection, founded in 1972, is committed to sheltering, rescuing, and placing homeless animals in loving homes; advocating respect and compassion for all animal life; providing humane education to prevent animal cruelty; and raising awareness in the community of the needs of animals.

CAP is proud to announce that through life-saving adoption and transfer programs and a lot of hard work, we have maintained a placement rate of over 93% for all homeless pets surrendered to our shelter in 2021. In 2021, CAP provided care for 10,260 animals; this includes animals surrendered by the public and transferred in from animal control agencies and rescue groups, animals already in the shelter and foster care program, feral cats trapped/neutered/returned and animals receiving vaccinations and other treatments in our low-cost vaccination clinic, The Cornelius Clinic.
