Dottie is a sweet, shy Pitbull mix who is just over two years old. Despite her young age, she has had an incredible past and behind her soulful eyes; is a beautiful heart of gold.
Dottie’s past life was riddled with neglect and violence as her previous owner was plagued with substance abuse and anger issues. As a result of his poor choices, Dottie was thrown in the middle of a fight between multiple men with various lethal weapons. Scared for the safety of herself and her 3-week-old puppies, Dottie ended up biting the man apprehending her owner. Unknown to poor Dottie, this man was an armed police officer who in chaos of the situation shot Dottie in the face. Miraculously, the bullet went through her skull, sinus cavity, soft pallet, and out the bottom of her neck. Dottie and her puppies were taken in by animal control where they sat in a kennel for five days with no medical care. Thankfully, the officer and sheriff’s department stated that they did not fault Dottie for what happened and advocated for her to be taken in by a rescue organization. Rez Dawg stepped in and immediately brough the family to a local vet. At this time, Dottie had developed a severe infection in the bullet wound, required hospitalization, and could no longer care for her puppies (who were taken in by another rescue). Once she recovered from her physical injuries, her true road to recovery began.
From the second Dottie arrived in foster care, it was clear that she was a diamond in the rough. From the moment she walked through the door, she was nothing but kind and gentle, longing for the affection she was previously deprived of. Unless she is sleeping, her tail almost never stops wagging. She was very excited about her four new canine foster siblings and became fast friends with all of them. She also adores her people and will dote on them all day if allowed. With Dottie, you really get the best of two worlds - She will happily accompany you on any adventure (walks around the block, rides in the car, hiking trials) but is also perfectly content to curl up on the couch or bed while you watch TV or read a book. Dottie is eager to please and enjoys learning new commands and the attention that comes with training.
Dottie is an extremely special girl, so she deserves an extraordinary home! Dottie would do best in a calm, stable home – ideally with a homeowner as opposed to an apartment (we also recommend this as she may look like a pittie, but she bays like a beagle!). Dottie would benefit from an experienced dog owner who is committed to furthering socialization and building confidence. A lot of Dottie’s self-confidence comes from being around other dogs. Dottie will need another confident, people friendly dog in the home as a role model and playmate. Although she has shown a positive interest in children, we feel it is best Dottie is in an adult-only household.
Dottie approaches life with an endearing cautious curiosity, something her foster family is encouraging as she continues to bloom and reach her full potential. Dottie is still nervous when meeting new people; please be patient with her because when given the chance, she will nuzzle her way into your heart, and you won’t be able to resist falling in love with her.
