My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

MEET BUTTONS!

Looking for a sweet, easy-going companion? Buttons may be your guy! Buttons joined us from Philly's animal control shelter where he was timestamped for euthanasia due to his medical needs at the time. Buttons was living outdoors and didn't seem to be doing too well caring for himself. Turns out, he had a mouth full of painful teeth which makes fending for yourself extra tricky. Buttons has seamlessly transitioned into life indoors and now that he's been medically cleared, is ready to find the perfect retirement home.

We're estimating Buttons to be somewhere around 10 years old. He can be a little shy while getting to know new people and will sometimes still run to hide when you enter a room, but quickly remembers that you're his best friend. Buttons spent the first day or so hiding in his new foster home but quickly adjusted and became a social little guy. He loves to lay on your chest when you're in bed, will snuggle up next to you on the couch, and when he really wants some love, he'll paw at you and pull your hand closer to him. It's like he's trying to make up for lost time so is getting all the lovin' he can now. Buttons is also very chatty and will talk and chirp throughout the day. He sometimes gets zoomies and chases his tail like a goof (mostly at night before bed) but is otherwise low energy. He's got a healthy appetite and enjoys both wet and dry food. He's got great litter box habits and hasn't had a single issue since moving indoors. Buttons isn't currently living with other pets in foster care but knowing his personality, we think he'd do best in a quieter home with other low-key cats and dogs who don't bother with cats.

Buttons is available for adoption through City of Elderly Love. He is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. He is FIV/FeLV negative and recently had a dental cleaning with extractions. Interested in adopting him? Visit cityofelderlylove.org to complete an online adoption questionnaire!

More about this rescue

Operating as an independent subsidiary of Citizens for a No-Kill Philadelphia, City of Elderly Love is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit animal rescue dedicated to saving and enriching the lives of adoptable senior pets in the Philadelphia area. Utilizing volunteer foster homes, City of Elderly Love aims to rescue these animals from potential euthanasia at area animal shelters as well as prevent older animals from entering the shelter-system in the first place, when possible. City of Elderly Love also provides palliative and hospice care when needed. Through creative marketing and community events, City of Elderly Love works to place its adoptable pets into loving adoptive homes.
