My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Say Hello to Arlo!

**Adoption Fee Covered + Free Training! Thanks to a generous supporter, this pet's adoption fee is fully covered — and OPH is including six virtual training sessions with a certified trainer in the first 60 days to help you start off strong together!**

Personality:
Arlo is a sweet, loyal, and obedient pup who loves to be near his people. Although this small gentleman may be a bit timid at first, he warms up quickly and has already shown what a gentle and well-mannered dog he is. He gains confidence every day.

Energy Level:
Moderate. Arlo enjoys sprinting around the yard and going for walks, but preferably where there are not a lot of people and dogs passing by, as it can be overwhelming for him. He is also just as happy to relax nearby and be a quiet companion. He definitely needs a yard, and is not cut out for city living.

Skills and Training:
He impressed his foster family right away with his calm demeanor during a grooming session, including a bath, hair trim, and lots of brushing. He has great mealtime manners - no begging or jumping - and is already showing his eagerness to please. He's completely house trained and is happy and quiet in his crate overnight. His leash manners are in progress, and he's learning how to walk nicely and greet passers-by without barking. He is good with the household cats. He would perhaps do best as an only dog, but would likely get along with another docile buddy with slow introductions.

He's perfectly behaved in the house and has never once gotten into mischief! Chewing his bone is his favorite pastime. Although he's not a fan of the car, he has done great with some outings including parks and walking trails.

Companionship:
Arlo loves being by someone's side and would thrive in a home where he can be a steady presence; he loves being included in the day-to-day routine. However, he is also flexible and content to chill on his own when his people have work to do.

Love and Affection:
This little guy has a lot of love to give. Whether sitting beside you quietly or following you from room to room, Arlo makes sure you know he’s there for you.

Ideal Home Environment:
Arlo would do best in a calm environment where there are not a lot of people bustling in and out or loud activity. Passing lots of people and dogs multiple times a day on walks would be stressful for him; instead, he enjoys running around in a yard (but still enjoys some walks, too!). Suburban or country living would be a great match for him.

Included Veterinary Care:
- Visit to veterinarian for health certificate
- Up to date on vaccinations for his age
- Neutered
- Microchipped
- Heartworm preventative
- Flea and tick preventative
- Worm/parasite treatments

MEET AND GREETS

We primarily rely on meet & greets for potential adopters. Approved adopters may meet adoptable animals at the home of the animal's foster, or possibly in the adopter's own home.

More about this rescue

Operation Paws for Homes, Inc. rescues dogs of all breeds and ages from high-kill shelters reducing the numbers being euthanized daily. We provide foster homes where they can get the love and attention needed before finding their forever homes. Our organization provides pet adoption services in Virginia, Washington DC, Maryland, and parts of Southern Pennsylvania. Operation Paws for Homes, a 501(c)(3) organization, is 100% donor funded and could not save these dogs and fulfill their dreams of being united with their forever families, without the dedication of our incredible adopters, fosters, donors and volunteers. Sadly, without our help, all of these adoptable animals would face almost certain euthanasia - usually within days or hours of arriving at the shelter. Each year we take in hundreds of wonderful animals who were left at shelters by no fault of their own.
