Meet Stormie

At about one year old, Stormie is the definition of a lovable whirlwind - a beautiful, bright, energetic pup who’s got a heart full of affection and a mind that never stops working. She’s confident, curious, and always looking for the next adventure or person to charm.

Energy and Personality
Stormie isn’t just energetic - she’s powerfully alive. This girl wakes up ready to play, learn, and love, and she gives every ounce of herself to everything she does. She’s affectionate, playful, and funny, with a strong streak of curiosity. Whether she’s chasing a toy, wrestling gently with her favorite human, or doing zoomies across the yard, she does it all with pure joy. She’s a social butterfly who thrives around people and dogs, and she’ll happily introduce herself to anyone new with a wag and a grin.

Training and Behavior
She’s a smart cookie - food motivated, eager to please, and learning fast. Stormie is crate trained and almost fully housebroken. She listens well when redirected and loves earning praise (and snacks). She’s still working on a few puppy habits, like jumping up on people, counter surfing, and stealing the occasional sock, but her intelligence and enthusiasm make her a fantastic student. She’s just the type who needs consistent structure, exercise, and positive reinforcement - give her that, and she’ll shine.

Social Life
Stormie plays beautifully with other dogs and is respectful around cats once they set boundaries. She’s been around chickens and ducks (through a fence) and is more curious than anything else. She adores kids, though her enthusiasm means she may be best suited for a home with children sturdy enough to handle her happy jumps. She’s an affectionate companion who loves being close, whether she’s playing in the yard or snuggling after a busy day.

Quirks and Special Traits
She can leap a 4-foot fence without hesitation, so a secure yard or leash walks are a must. She’s also a bit of an escape artist - leave her collar or harness on too long, and she’ll test her engineering skills. But beneath her clever antics and bursts of energy is a sweet, loyal soul who simply wants to love and be loved.

Best Home Fit
Stormie will thrive in an active home where she can get both physical and mental stimulation - hikes, puzzles, training games, and playtime galore. She’d love a canine buddy who can keep up with her or a family that enjoys having a funny, smart, and affectionate sidekick. She’s not for the faint of heart, but she’s absolutely for the ones who love a good challenge and endless snuggles.

Veterinary Care
Stormie has a heart condition that requires medication twice a day and regular cardiologist visits, currently every six months. She can enjoy playtime with other dogs and backyard romps but should avoid long runs or strenuous hikes. Daily walks are fine with monitoring and breaks as needed. Her heart rate is irregular but well controlled with medication, and she listens to her body, resting when necessary. Her medication costs $33 for a 6-month supply.

MEET AND GREETS

We primarily rely on meet & greets for potential adopters. Approved adopters may meet adoptable animals at the home of the animal's foster, or possibly in the adopter's own home.

More about this rescue

Operation Paws for Homes, Inc. rescues dogs of all breeds and ages from high-kill shelters reducing the numbers being euthanized daily. We provide foster homes where they can get the love and attention needed before finding their forever homes. Our organization provides pet adoption services in Virginia, Washington DC, Maryland, and parts of Southern Pennsylvania. Operation Paws for Homes, a 501(c)(3) organization, is 100% donor funded and could not save these dogs and fulfill their dreams of being united with their forever families, without the dedication of our incredible adopters, fosters, donors and volunteers. Sadly, without our help, all of these adoptable animals would face almost certain euthanasia - usually within days or hours of arriving at the shelter. Each year we take in hundreds of wonderful animals who were left at shelters by no fault of their own.
