This gorgeous, freckled girl is Cadence and she is ready to find her happily ever after!

Cadence is a 5-year-old Cocker Spaniel with beautiful white and red markings and a long, undocked tail that literally never stops wagging! She weighs a solid 28lbs and is a strong girl, ready for adventure in her new life. Cadence is pure love and lives to be adored by her people.

Cadence was surrendered from a large-scale breeding operation where she had spent her life as a breeding mama. She came into rescue having never been in a house before but within a few days she had the lay of the land and she has not looked back! Cadence has adapted to her new life very quickly and, with a bit more confidence and exposure, she will be ready to take on the world. Cadence is looking for a home where her new family is patient and consistent as she continues to evolve into her perfect self.

The most noise I have ever heard form Cady is her strong tail smacking the sides of her crate with happy wags when I enter a room so for this reason, she would do well in any living situation. She LOVES to smell all the smells so a yard for her would be nice but as long as her family is willing to give her lots of enrichment outside with walks and wanders, she will be a happy girl. She is quickly learning to do stairs so this would also not be an issue for her. Cady does very well on leash, walking 95% of the time at your side. The other 5% of the time she thinks herself a lioness on the Serengeti, ready to hunt for her very survival! A quick correction and reminder of her manners and she is back at your side. She gets 2-3 walks a day of 20-30 minutes but she would happily do more. She is not a dog who needs endless amounts of exercise in order to be well behaved but after 5 years of nothing but raising puppies, she deserves to get out see the world as much as possible! She is very curious about any people we encounter and with a bit of patience and time she is happy to meet everyone. She can be startled by sudden, loud noises so it’s important to walk her with a martingale collar and a strong grip on the leash.

One of my favorite things about Cady is her expert level cuddles. When I get on the ground or the couch with her, she hurries over and flops onto me, making sure we have as much physical contact as possible. She soaks up every bit of affection and gives it back tenfold. She also has the adorable lack of physical awareness that I have previously witnessed with cocker spaniels – like she doesn’t realize her size or care where she stops. I definitely have to keep my wits about me when we’re all out and wandering around the house because she doesn’t yet know how to keep out from underfoot! But hey, if I fall down then at least she’ll be there immediately to make sure I can get some pets in before I get back on my feet!

Cadence took to house training immediately and, with proper supervision, she has not had an accident in the house. She is thriving on the schedule of my home and has learned to wait to be let out. She also took to crate training very quickly and settles inside almost immediately. Her crate is a safe space for her to rest and safely observe everything going on in the house. She gets excited when I come or go but left alone, she lays down calmly. She is being crated overnight, when I’m unable to pay attention to her and when I’m out of the house. Overnight she sleeps right through without a peep. On a workday that means she is crated morning and then again in the afternoon with a potty break at lunchtime. She could carry on this schedule without issue, but she would also love some more company throughout the day. She is also a dream on car rides where she rides in a crate for her safety. She settles in right away and patiently waits. If we are going to a new location for her, it can take her a few minutes to orient herself and find her courage so patience and calm leadership with her make all the difference.

When Cadence came into rescue her coat had been shaved down to the skin. It continues to grow back in and is much healthier now that she is eating a high-quality diet. Cocker spaniels have a coat that requires regular maintenance so her new family needs to the ready to take on the task themselves or keep Cady on a regular schedule with a groomer. I found her to be very cooperative to bathe but the blow drier was a nonnegotiable – towel dry only for this special girl!

Cady is being fostered in a home with multiple small dogs and she is good with everyone, however, she does not seek them out and much prefers to spend her time lounging on her human. She would be fine in a house with a likeminded dog, but she would also be fine soaking up all the attention herself. She can sometimes, in her lioness moments, be interested in outdoor wildlife but she is incredibly easy to redirect so I think she would also be fine in a house with a dog savvy cat, provided she was given proper training and supervision.

Cadence’s sweet and gentle nature makes her an appropriate family dog, given that the children in the family are taught proper ways to handle her and not left unattended. Families with children over 8 will be considered. She would also thrive in an adult only home.

Cady will benefit from formal training and her family must be committed to attending with her. Training will give her confidence and help her family develop skills to lead her for the rest of her life. She hasn’t learned any formal commands yet but she is smart and motivated by positive reinforcement so training should be a great experience.

Shortly after coming into rescue, Cadence was spayed without issue. She also had a dental cleaning where a few teeth were removed. She has been microchipped, and she is up to date on her core vaccines. She was a cooperative and affectionate patient, unsurprisingly.

Cadence has been a dream foster and one of the easiest dogs I’ve ever lived with. She is now ready to shower her new family with her big, unconditional love and in return she is looking for a patient home where she can feel safe continuing to learn about the world. She needs a family who will commit to her training and her health throughout her life as she deserves nothing but love and adventure after the rough start she had to endure. Her wish list also includes lots of walks and endless couch cuddles. She has come so far in the short time that she has been with me and her new family is going to get the gift of seeing her evolve into her perfect self.
