Meet Momma Coco
Female | Lab Mix | Estimated 4–5 Years Old
We may never know the full story of what Momma Coco has been through—but her body tells us more than enough. When our rescue partner in South Carolina responded to a call about six unwanted puppies, they arrived to find not just the puppies, but their mother—tied to a tree, severely neglected, and barely surviving.
One of Coco’s legs had been caught in a fence and chewed off by other dogs. Her teeth are nearly gone, and her emaciated frame shows the signs of long-term starvation. And yet, despite unimaginable hardship, Momma Coco lovingly nursed and raised six healthy puppies with extraordinary devotion. When she had almost nothing left for herself, she still gave everything she had to her babies.
There was no way we were going to take her puppies and leave her behind. Coco came into our rescue shortly after, and once she joined us, we learned that she is heartworm positive. We immediately began her treatment, and she is now on the path toward healing—both physically and emotionally.
Momma Coco is currently safe in a foster home where she is finally experiencing kindness, consistency, and care. As we’ve gotten to know her, we’ve learned that she thrives in a home with another dog, which helps her build confidence and feel secure. She is potty trained, incredibly sweet, and deeply loving. While she is not a fan of the crate, she is learning to tolerate it with patience and gentle guidance.
What shines through most is Coco’s quiet strength, resilience, and soft, loving nature. She is a gentle soul who has endured far more than any dog should, yet still seeks connection and comfort from those around her.
Momma Coco will need a home filled with patience, kindness, and understanding—a place where she can truly rest, feel safe, and finally begin a new chapter. If you’re interested in giving this incredible mama the peaceful life she has always deserved, we would love to hear from you.
