My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Chip is an adorable 1 1/2 year-old, 10 pound Yorkie mix.  Chip's coat is coarse, which means low maintenance and low-to-no shed.

Chip is all terrier and an active and athletic little guy. He is quick and will dart for an open door, so his adoptive home needs to be prepared to manage a young dog and around outside doorways.

When Chip came to us, he was unsure but learned to trust his foster mother and other women quickly; at the same time, he is slower to warm up to men.  Chip’s new owner needs to be patient and give Chip time to decompress until he becomes more secure in his new home.  Chip doesn’t mind being crated and is good at entertaining himself with toys. Like most terriers, Chip will bark when there is something to bark about.  He would be a great candidate for someone who wants to do clicker training and a good companion for a walker.  Chip is a dog you need to keep busy or he will figure out how to do that himself!

The ideal home for Chip would be with someone who has experience dealing with unsure dogs and understands going slow and moving at Chip’s pace, and wants to bond with a dog through training and enrichment activities.  Chip will do best being the only dog in the home.

The adoption range for this dog is limited to NC, SC, VA and East TN. If you are interested in adopting this dog, contact h2hadoptions@gmail.com. There is an application process and adoption fee.

WE REQUIRE AN ALL-ADULT HOME WITH A SECURELY FENCED YARD.  The secure fence must be at least 4 feet with gaps no larger than 1 1/4 inch and attached to the home.  An invisible fence, enclosed patio or terrace without grass, temporary fencing, dog pens or dog lots or community shared fencing (dog park) are NOT considered secure fencing. If your fencing has "puppy pickets" (or is supplemented with garden fencing), it needs to be at least 36 inches high from the ground up AT THE LOWEST POINT. No exceptions.

We are an all-volunteer organization, and in addition to saving dogs, we have other responsibilities, so we appreciate your patience and understanding during this process. Response time can take up to 5 business days.

Please inquire only if you are willing to come to Greensboro, NC to meet the dog after we schedule your home visit. We do not ship dogs or put them on transports.

Veterinary Care: All Hart-2-Heart Rescue foster dogs are spayed/neutered, current on heartworm prevention, parvo/distemper, bordetella, and rabies vaccines, and are professionally groomed. As needed, our foster dogs have teeth cleanings, extractions, bloodwork and other diagnostic testing.

More about this rescue

Hart-2-Heart Rescue is a non-profit organization formed to rescue small mixed-breed and purebred dogs who would otherwise fall between the cracks. Our focus is to provide a happy future for our foster dogs, to guarantee the care and support needed to ensure their full health of both mind and body. Everything we do is driven by the passionate belief that we can improve life for the dogs in our care regardless of their background, whether they are strays, abandoned, from puppy mills or shelters, or victims of unavoidable life circumstances.

Hart-2-Heart Rescue was established by co-founders Jennifer Hart and Judy Allen, long-time friends whose paths converged in the 1990’s. With complimentary skill sets and years of pet ownership, breed knowledge, training and behavioral expertise, and rescue experience, they joined forces to develop the model of home-fostered dogs. Hart-2-Heart Rescue was born of a dream and a sense of social responsibility to ensure that the foster dogs in our care are provided with necessary medical, social and life skills that will enable them to develop to their full potential.

Joined by a group of dedicated volunteers, Hart-2-Heart’s goal is to successfully match each dog with the right family as well as to match each family with the right dog. Our volunteers give freely of their time, resources and love to provide an in-home experience for each of our foster dogs. Our rescues live as an integrated member of our families in our homes, where they’re taught the skills and joys of daily living. We ensure that adoptions are for life by determining a suitable match and by providing on-going support to adoptive families.

Hart-2-Heart Rescue is an all-volunteer charitable 501(c)(3) non-profit organization located in Greensboro, North Carolina. We do not have a physical shelter because our adoptable dogs live in foster homes. Our dream is to help dogs find the right home and bring joy to the people who adopt them; our expertise is in doing so.
