My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

MEET RUSTIE!

Rustie was surrendered to Kitty Devore Rescue at the tail end of February 2025 at the age of just three months by a kind soul who found him abandoned just outside of their home. We secured him a long-term foster home, and being a young kitten, he settled in quickly and adapted easily to his new indoor-life routine.

As a kitten, Rustie has an abundance of energy. He loves to wrestle with other kitties, chase string toys, and even play some fetch with plush mice! Don't let his high energy levels fool you, though; Rustie is a snuggler through and through. He loves receiving pets and curling up with his humans on the sofa while they watch TV. You may even find that he wants you to lift the covers while you're in bed so he can snuggle under them! Adorable Rustie relishes the company of other kitties, too, and would thrive in a home with another kitty his own age and energy level.

Rustie, now neutered, fully vaccinated, and microchipped, seeks a forever home filled with love and people who have the time to provide him with ample attention and affection and the love and care he deserves for the rest of his life. Does this sound like you? If so, visit www.kittydevorerescue.org and fill out an adoption application for Rustie today!

** Please note: Rustie currently resides in a Kitty Devore Rescue foster home in Northridge, CA (Los Angeles County). Once an adoption application is approved, meet-and-greets are held at the foster home. Approved adopters should be prepared to travel for the visit.

Please Note the Following Adoption Policies:

• We reserve the right to deny any adoption application at our discretion.

• Most of our foster cats are cared for in Southern California. However, we also have foster homes in Northern California, Seattle, WA, and Kalispell, MT. Before applying, please confirm that the kitty you're interested in is located within your state or a nearby supported region.

• With the exception of our fosters located in Seattle and Kalispell, we are unable to adopt to applicants residing outside of California. Please understand that we do not ship cats—our adoptions are local and personal, not transactional.

More about this rescue

Kitty Devore Rescue is a close-knit, all-volunteer nonprofit founded in 2011 with one heartfelt mission: to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome cats and kittens from Devore Animal Shelter in San Bernardino, CA, and surrounding areas. When we began, only a handful of cats ever made it out of the shelter alive. Today, because of our relentless dedication and the shared efforts of fellow rescue partners, that save rate has soared to nearly 90%.

We’re not a shelter—we’re a foster-based family. Each cat we save lives in the loving care of one of our foster guardians, spread across Southern California and beyond, until they’re ready to meet their forever person. Our volunteers balance careers, families, school, and life’s many demands, yet still pour their hearts into rescue work every single day. For many of us, this isn’t just something we do—it’s who we are.

Every adoption is a promise fulfilled. Every donation fuels another chance. And every cat we place in a warm, devoted home is a story of hope come true—for them and for the people who welcome them.

At Kitty Devore Rescue, we believe every life matters, and every cat deserves to be safe, cherished, and loved for a lifetime.
