My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

MEET LUCIE, BONDED WITH HER BROTHER, LES!

When Lucie, Les, and their brother Layne were born in April 2024, their momma chose the crawl space of a nearby home for shelter. A neighbor lady made sure mom ate twice a day. When the three kittens weaned, the friendly neighbor lady fed them, too. Eventually, she gained the trust of the little family and brought them all indoors where they'd be safe. She hoped to find the perfect home for each but needed some help. A longtime Kitty Devore Rescue foster mom pointed her in our direction, assuring her that if she continued to foster the family, we'd happily take them into our foster care program and find fantastic homes with people who would love them for the rest of their lives.

Lucie comforts and soothes those around her with her soft purrs and warm presence. Initially a timid kitten, she blossomed into a gregarious, energetic young lady. Les is a gentle giant, ready to offer a paw to those in need and a warm snuggle to anyone feeling down. His kind spirit shines through in everything he does, from comforting his human family members to playing with his favorite toys. His big heart is matched only by his big personality, filling the house with laughter and love. Lucie and Les are an inseparable and bonded brother and sister duo who spend their days sleeping, eating, playing, and exploring the world together. If Lucie calls, Les answers. They complement each other like peanut butter and jelly or mac and cheese. Together, they bring endless laughter and happiness to whoever is lucky enough to have them in their lives. Lucie and Les are truly a dynamic duo, ready to bring love and light into a new home.

At Kitty Devore Rescue, we strive to ensure each kitty in our care experiences their best life and, for Lucie and Les, that means life, forever, with one another with a person or family who loves them - together. Look no further than Lucie and Les if you're seeking two furry friends to brighten your days with endless love and laughter. Fill out an application to adopt them today at www.kittydevorerescue.org!

** Please note: Lucie and her brother, Les, currently reside in a Kitty Devore Rescue foster home in Orange, California (Orange County). Once an adoption application is approved, meet-and-greets are held at the foster home. Approved adopters should be prepared to travel for the visit.

** Our adoption fee is $200 per kitty. However, when adopting a pair—like Lucie and Les—you’ll receive a $25 discount. The total adoption fee of $375 covers both kitties.

More about this rescue

Kitty Devore Rescue is a close-knit, all-volunteer nonprofit founded in 2011 with one heartfelt mission: to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome cats and kittens from Devore Animal Shelter in San Bernardino, CA, and surrounding areas. When we began, only a handful of cats ever made it out of the shelter alive. Today, because of our relentless dedication and the shared efforts of fellow rescue partners, that save rate has soared to nearly 90%.

We’re not a shelter—we’re a foster-based family. Each cat we save lives in the loving care of one of our foster guardians, spread across Southern California and beyond, until they’re ready to meet their forever person. Our volunteers balance careers, families, school, and life’s many demands, yet still pour their hearts into rescue work every single day. For many of us, this isn’t just something we do—it’s who we are.

Every adoption is a promise fulfilled. Every donation fuels another chance. And every cat we place in a warm, devoted home is a story of hope come true—for them and for the people who welcome them.

At Kitty Devore Rescue, we believe every life matters, and every cat deserves to be safe, cherished, and loved for a lifetime.
