Duke is a handsome 3-1/2 year old male American Pit Bull Terrier mix who was surrendered by his owner to the Washington County Ohio Warden on May 29, 2025 because Duke didn't get along with the other dog in the home.
This good-looking guy has a black-and-white coat with beautiful brown/mahogany shading, a long tail, and a symmetrically-marked face with dark brown eyes, a milk chocolate nose, and short floppy ears.
These outdoor kennel photos of Duke were taken on June 7th while he was enjoying some fresh air and a break from his smaller indoor kennel. Thanks to HSOV Volunteer Angel Grosklos for helping Duke with his photos that day. Duke loved to be close to the fence/gate which was very touching (but difficult for the paparazzi to take pictures) .. So Angel stayed close to Duke on the opposite side of the kennel (smile). Where there's a will, there's a way!!
The indoor photos of Duke were taken on June 14th while he was temporarily moved to a floor crate so that other big dogs could have their turn in a larger kennel. Did we mention that our shelter is over-capacity? Especially for large dogs.
Duke weighs 68.2 lbs and is fairly strong on a leash.
Our HSOV managers/kennel techs will be assessing Duke's dog selectivity since we don't have information about the incident which was mentioned with the other dog in Duke's home.
We look forward to taking more flattering photos of this gorgeous guy in the green grass when the torrid mid-Ohio Valley heat wave departs the region.
Duke will be neutered before being adopted by his new family.
