My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Current Foster Caregiver:

DO NOT CLICK AWAY. Rego spent his first six years in one loving home with his brother — the only family he ever knew. When they began to clash, his people had to make the heartbreaking choice to rehome one of them. Overnight, Rego lost everything familiar. Now he’s learning to trust again, one soft blink and gentle head bump at a time.

He’s a quiet, sensitive soul who just wants to feel safe and loved. Every day he opens up a little more — following me around, meowing for conversation, purring through his brushing sessions, and even handling nail trims and baths like a champ. He’s perfectly litter-trained, loves pawing toys out of his box, and struts through the house like a tiny black panther (those open-mouth photos? he’s meowing, not hissing — pure cuteness). He loves gazing out the window and going wild for his flirt pole — his playful side is just as special as his gentle one.

Rego would do best in a calm, patient home with someone who understands that trust takes time. If you give him that chance, he’ll give you something rare — the kind of love that’s full of meows, slow blinks, and quiet devotion. If this is the love I’m getting only three weeks in, I can’t imagine how incredible it will be once he truly knows he’s home.

Previous Owner:

Rego is one of the sweetest, most loving and silliest cats around! He can be shy and skittish around new people at first, but once he warms up, he loves to sit next to you and start purring while giving you the most loving look. In fact, he is a purr machine. You can give him infinite pets or hold him in your arms like a baby and he will purr while making biscuits on your shoulder to no end, or until your arms get tired. He’s always excited to greet you whether you’re coming back home or just entering the room and will bash into your legs back and forth while giving his signature high-pitched meows and tail jiggles. He still has very playful kitten energy and loves to run and around chasing a wand or laser until he starts panting, you are guaranteed to have many laughs! His coat is silky smooth and he has two white stripes on his belly which make it look like he is wearing a bikini.

This cat would prefer to be adopted alone and be the only cat in the home.

More about this rescue

Our rescue group was formed in December 2007, but all our Board Members have had extensive experience rescuing and working with abandoned animals. We often work with other rescue organizations to find appropriate and safe foster and adoptive homes for our pet clients. We regularly go to areas with abandoned animals and collect them. The animals are taken to a licensed veterinarian examined, treated and spayed or neutered. Every effort is made to work with the animal and our foster and adoptive families to find a suitable forever home.

For those animals who are truly wild and feral, we release the animal in a safe and secure location after it has recovered from its medical treatment. We also work with certified wildlife rehabilitators to rescue injured and orphaned wildlife. Our organization is focused on improving the welfare of the abandoned animals in need of help in Brooklyn. In furthering that goal, our resources are focused on the animals.

Aside from a few minimal overhead costs such as our website and phone services, our entire budget is spent on animal care such as medical and food costs.
