Westin is a 1-year-old mixed breed who weighs about 57 pounds and is every bit the big, lovable puppy you’d expect at this age. He doesn’t have a mean bone in his body, but he is still learning his manners and can get jumpy and mouthy when excited. Because of his size and enthusiasm, Westin will do best in an adult-only home or one with teenagers who can help redirect his puppy behaviors and continue his training.
He is house-trained, crate-trained, and will go to the door when he needs to go out. Westin already knows sit, down, stay, and paw, and he has made wonderful progress in foster care. He responds well to clear expectations and just needs a confident, consistent adopter who will continue reinforcing good manners as he matures.
While Westin has plenty of playful energy and enjoys being busy, he doesn’t necessarily need intense exercise. Walks can make him a bit nervous right now, but he loves being involved in whatever his people are doing at home. His favorite activities include playing fetch or frisbee, carrying around toys, chewing on a good bone, and simply hanging out nearby. He also has a very snuggly side and especially loves curling up with his humans at night.
Westin rides in the car and is still building confidence, but he settles in well as long as he can stay close to his person. He may be bouncy when meeting new people, though he has already improved greatly and rarely jumps on his foster parents now.
If you’re looking for a sweet, affectionate, goofy young dog who wants to be your constant companion and grow into a well-mannered adult with your guidance, Westin could be the perfect match. His adoption fee is sponsored. There is a $15 fee (for McLean County residents 4 months or older) for rabies registration.
He has been neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, heartworm checked, dewormed, and is on flea and heartworm preventatives.
