My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

TL;DR:
5monthold male gray tabby with soulful eyes and an expert biscuitmaking habit. Sensitive and shy at first, but blossoms into a deeply affectionate companion once trust is earned — offering heartfelt kneading sessions, head bonks, and rumbling purrs. Needs a calm, patient home with at least one confident resident cat. Must go to experienced cat owners who are patient and willing to start out with handfeeding.

WAIT! Before you fall in love with Mordecai...because you WILL...
Please ask yourself these two deal-breaker questions:
1 Do you have a confident, cat-friendly cat already living in your home?
2 Do you have experience living with and caring for cats?

If the answer to both is yes, great — read on!
If the answer to either is no, we’re sorry, but Mordecai requires a confident feline role model and an experienced cat-savvy home.

Bonus: Mordecai will bond more quickly if you’re willing to hand-feed during the early days. It’s not required, but it really helps.

Name: Mordecai
Class: Biscuit-Mancer / Wand Duelist
Race: Domestic Shorthair (Gray Tabby Lineage)
Level: 0.85 (XP earned in resilience and quiet courage)
Alignment: Lawful Sensitive
Size: Gracefully Slender

Coat AC (Adorableness Coating): 18 — tabby swirls + soulful eyes = irresistible
HP: Fragile in new zones, but regenerates quickly with affection spells
Speed: Variable — 30 ft when exploring, 0 ft in new layout dungeons

Stats (base + bonus)

  • Wisdom +8 - Reads the energy in a room like a seasoned druid

  • Dexterity +5 - Swift and precise when hunting the wand prey

  • Intelligence +6 - Remembers where you hid the treats… and your kindness

  • Constitution +2 - Needs recovery time after every major emotional boss fight

  • Charisma +4, +10 with trusted allies; -3 with strangers

  • Cuteness +9 - Biscuit-paws + head butts = Critical Hit

  • Stealth +7 - Can vanish behind one couch leg, even though he’s not small

Traits & Abilities

  • Biscuit Aura: Automatically casts kneading spell once affection is accepted.

  • Hand-Fed Heartbond: When fed directly by human, gains +5 trust, +3 purr, and unlocks Pettable Mode.

  • Emotional Cooldown: Requires recalibration after room redecoration or loud noise.

  • Hidey-Hole Phase Shift: Gains invisibility for 1–2 days post-disruption. Will reappear with time and soft voices.

  • Champion Purr Engine: Boosts morale of nearby allies. Has been known to trigger human tears (of joy).

  • Play Game Resurgence: When engaged with wand toy, reverts to playful kitling with +3 to joy and +2 to confidence.

Background & Lore

Once a lone explorer on the streets, Mordecai now walks the winding road of rehabilitation. His journey has been neither quick nor easy — the fear remains, but it no longer defines him. He wants to connect. He tries so hard. And when he dares to trust, the reward is magnificent: biscuits so heartfelt they could mend broken souls, head bonks worthy of a seasoned cleric, and purrs that echo with gratitude.

He’s not just any companion. He’s looking for the perfect party to join — and to become their familiar. A lifelong bond awaits those patient enough to earn his trust.

Ideal Party

  • Patient humans with soft voices and softer hearts.

  • No young children, loud minotaurs, or unpredictable bards.

  • A stable home with a predictable rhythm and a confident feline NPC for guidance and grounding.

  • Must be willing to win affection the old-fashioned way: with time, treats, and tiny victories.

Mordecai’s Deal-Breakers

  • Cannot be “won” in a day. This is a long-term quest with emotional side missions.

  • Does not respond well to being scooped up like a loot drop.

  • Needs a calm environment — loud households will cause retreat to the Shadow Realm (under the dresser).

Adopt Mordecai
Don’t do it because he’s cute. (He is — wildly so.) Do it because you want to be chosen by a biscuit-mancer whose quiet courage and deep loyalty will change your heart forever.

If you’ve made it this far, thank you for reading about Mordecai! But please don’t forget the essentials:

  • A confident resident cat is non-negotiable.

  • Cat experience is a must.

These aren’t preferences — they are the key to Mordecai’s happiness and success. If that sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you!

Age/DOB: 3-30-2025

I am neutered, tested negative for FIV/ FeLV, microchipped, dewormed, treated with Revolution, and am up-to-date on age-appropriate vaccines.

More about this rescue

Purrs & Whiskers, Inc. is a non-profit organization serving Stafford, Virginia and its surrounding areas whose mission is to employ the best practices of the TNR (Trap, Neuter, Return) philosophy and for those deemed adoptable, we provide temporary foster care while actively seeking a loving permanent living situation. This is accomplished by providing compassion, daily nourishment, and basic wellness care for both individual cats, as well as colonies of free-roaming, homeless cats living outdoors. When feasible, we will collaborate with local shelters in an effort to relieve over-crowding by identifying and adopting out shelter cats into appropriate, permanent living situations.
