My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

When the shelter didn't have room to accept the little stray female dog that showed up at a country home, the homeowner reached out to ARF for help. Having no available foster homes, ARF checked about an available space in boarding. The little brown and white spotted girl could come in 11/13/24, and the man agreed to keep her safe at his home until she could be picked up and taken to boarding. Her paw was hurt, and he bandaged it. He said that this little dog got along well with his three dogs and went outside with them both to potty and play, didn't have accidents in the house, and slept in their bed while there. At boarding, Maggie, who appears to be a beagle mixed with corgi or terrier, was uncomfortable going out by herself. She may need some adjustment time to know what she is supposed to do. She rode well in the pet carrier to boarding but was a little intimidated when so many dogs started barking. That quickly changed, however, and she started saying hello to all the other dogs when she would come in from being outside!  The man who surrendered Maggie said that she weighed 26 pounds, She looked heavier, but on her vet visit of 11/19/24, she weighed 26.4 pounds!  The vet assessed her as no more than one year old. She likely hasn't been on a leash much, so she needs some training. Her behavior is still playful puppy, and she tried to chew her leash while at the clinic. She'd benefit from some chew toys for sure.  She cooperated with the clinic staff through the entire exam and testing. She likes everyone and enjoys attention and petting. Unfortunately, Maggie tested positive for lyme disease, so she has a 30-day treatment of doxy. The vet said that few dogs in our area do not have lyme disease now! When Maggie was chosen for adoption by a wonderful family who have both been involved in rescue themselves and have supported ARF and Jackson County's rescue efforts for years, we agreed for her to be spayed there so she good get in a good home sooner. Maggie already has an appointment with her new vet, but she'll likely need to complete her medication and be retested before her spay. On 11/19/24 Maggie had her 4DX, DHPP, Fecal (negative, with drontal as a precaution), lepto, rabies, lyme, Nexgard, and Interceptor.  Her nails were trimmed and a little wound behind her ear where she had scratched was cleaned and treated. She was microchipped, too.  Maggie doesn't know it yet, but she will have a wonderful Thanksgiving and be thankful every day for the rest of her life with her loving new family!

UPDATE:  Maggie had some issues after adoption, mainly nipping -- hard! ARF offered to take her back, but her adopters have moved heaven and earth to help her. She has two trainers and is in doggie day care!  Thank you, Karen Barnes, for not giving up on Maggie!
