1/13 Update:
Remember Jaskier? 💙
Jaskier was the last puppy left from his litter, all of whom entered our shelter as puppies. He’s now 9 months old, about 50 pounds, and has spent 220 days at MOAS (over 7 months!) growing up behind kennel doors. 🥺 For Jaskier, the shelter was the only life he’d ever known… until last week.
Finally, he got his chance to experience life in a home. 🏠
A wonderful foster family stepped up, and in just one week, we’re already seeing meaningful progress. The scared, skittish boy from Day 2—who startled easily at loud noises and sudden movements—is slowly learning that homes aren’t such scary places after all. 🥹
At first, he was constantly on the move, unsure of his surroundings and very sensitive to noise. Now, just days later, he’s settling more each day, tolerating new sounds better, and letting his puppy energy shine through. He’s learning routines, improving with crate time, and doing well with house training (just 2 accidents in 9 days, which is remarkable for a pup who grew up being forced to potty in his space). It’s been a beautiful transition to witness.
Jaskier has started to play with the resident dog, takes correction well when puppy nipping, and is gentle with older kids. He’d likely do best in a home without toddlers, simply because he’s still learning his manners and doesn’t always realize his size.
Jaskier will need patience, structure, and time, but what he’s showing already is steady, consistent progress—and that matters. Think of the life he’s known so far: loud kennels, cold nights, rotating kennel mates, watching siblings disappear, and seeing people pass by without stopping.
This boy didn’t get an easy start.
But he’s trying.
He’s learning.
And he deserves a future bigger than the shelter walls he grew up behind.
If you believe love is worth the wait, Jaskier has spent his whole life waiting so far. 🐾💙

⭐🐶Jovial Gentle Jaskier🐶⭐
This sweetheart is one of the many puppies who has grown up with us here at MOAS. And though we love our sweet shelter animals, this is not the place for a pup to grow up.💔 We want them ALL safe and in loving homes, and Jaskier is at the top of our list. He is a gem and a half! He's a sweet, playful, happy puppy who gets along with other dogs and loves to play tug! He'll pick up a ball just to gleefully get squirreled in puppy fashion and drop it as he moves on to the next thing.😆 He's funny, entertaining, and just a hoot and a half! Isn't he dapper in his fancy bowtie?😍

Madison Oglethorpe Animal Shelter is a non-profit shelter serving over 720 square miles. We are open intake, meaning we can not turn away animals from either county we serve. Our shelter intakes double or triple it's capacity every month so it is essential we place animals quickly into adoptive homes. Since so many animals enter the shelter we often don't have enough volunteers to write an individual bio for each. Please feel free to call the shelter Wednesday-Sunday to inquire about the animal you are interested in. 706-795-2868.
Viewing and adoption hours at our shelter are Wednesday through Sunday from 12 PM to 5 PM.
