Meet Gilda – A Brilliant Young Star from an Opera Family

Gilda carries a name as full of character as she is—named after the heroine of Giuseppe Verdi’s opera Rigoletto. She comes from a true opera lineage: her brother is named Verdi, after the composer himself, and her elegant mother is Aida, named after Verdi’s famous opera. It’s safe to say this little family was born for drama, heart, and high notes.

From early on, Gilda stood out—not just for her beauty, but for her remarkable intelligence.
Gilda is the brains of her tiny family: quick to discover new games, quietly mischievous, and always teaching her brother how to follow in her clever little pawprints.

As a baby, Gilda was the weaker kitten, and her foster mom watched over her like a hawk—especially during those deep naps when she looked worryingly lifeless (don’t worry, she just really commits to sleeping). But Gilda has grown into a playful, energetic kitten who can turn anything into a toy—paper balls, hair rollers, bottle caps—this girl doesn’t need fancy toys to have fun.

She’s not a picky eater, but she does have a refined palate: soft food is her jam, and she’s shown a passionate love for chicken. Gilda and her brother haven’t quite learned table manners yet and may sniff around when you eat like tiny, fuzzy beggars—but who could say no to that face?

Gilda is incredibly smart—so much that she’s claimed the bed (and even the pillow) as her rightful sleeping place. Her foster mom ended up on the couch more than once just to let this little queen sleep in peace. She understands routines, spaces, and affection in ways most kittens don’t at this age.

Gilda is looking for a forever home that will appreciate her intelligence, nurture her playful side, and gently teach her some house rules (or not—we’re not judging if you let her steal your pillow too). She is a very special kitten with a bright mind and a big heart. Whoever adopts her is getting a true gem.

Down to business: Gilda is being fostered at one of Toronto Cat Rescue’s pet store partner locations. Please note that if you’re approved to adopt, you’ll need to pick them up from the store within 24 hours of being approved.
