Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Bessie is a beautiful 13-inch beagle who is approximately 7 or 8 yrs old, has a lovely sleek, non-shedding coat, is heartworm negative, and weighs twenty-one pounds. She was found stray in a rural area by a good samaritan, and brought to a Houston area shelter in rough condition, so the shelter contacted beagle rescue to take her into our program. She came to us with multiple parasites, yeast infection in ears and on the skin, required dental cleaning and extraction, and a benign lump was removed. Her health is now vastly improved.
Bessie is a fun, upbeat girl with a lot of personality and would do especially well with someone familiar with the beagle breed. She is a very high energy dog and has been living in a loving foster home, brushing up on her skills with a senior beagle companion. She sleeps quietly in her crate all night, quickly learned to use the doggie door and is perfectly house trained. She's very attached to her humans and enjoys accompanying them in the car for any Adventure. She knows basic commands, gets along with other dogs after a proper introduction, but she could also be happy as an only dog. She's very food motivated so is separated from other dogs during meals, but does take turns and sits during treats.
Although she loves her daily walks, she is very strong and would benefit from extra leash training. Because of her strength and high energy, she would do best in a home without small children or fragile dogs, and she definitely cannot live with cats.
Bessie is currently on a special gastrointestinal prescription diet and takes an inexpensive medication (generic Prozac) to calm her high energy level. She gets a deterrent chewy with her meals to help discourage her from eating her poop. Like most beagles, she will require a securely fenced yard.
Bessie will be a lively addition to an energetic home!

Go meet their pets
Check our website at www.HoustonBeagleRescue.org for info. We typically have meet & greet events on the second Sunday of each month, from noon to 3:00 p.m. and will always bring several of the rescued beagles to that event, so look up the location of the month on our website, and come meet some adorable beagles! We also periodically hold special activities, and occasionally attend Houston-area adoption events which will be listed on our "events" section of our website. Our quarterly newsletter is published on our website at www.HoustonBeagleRescue.org
