My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

My name is Toby. My story isn’t the easiest to tell, but I hope it touches the heart of someone special, maybe yours.
I was found wandering near a quiet farm road, not far from a busy highway. I was 8 years old, alone, and injured, with a painful wound on my cheek. Coyotes roamed the area, and I had seen too many of my feline friends fall victim to them. I was lucky to be rescued in time.
I had a microchip, but my old family never updated their information. So even though I once had a home, I couldn’t find my way back. That chapter of my life closed, and I’ve been waiting ever since for a new one to begin. Although they take good care of me at the rescue, I am not happy. I would love to have my own, forever, home.
I’m a little shy at first, but once I feel safe, I absolutely adore people. I’ll quietly curl up beside you, grateful just to be near. I don’t do well with other cats—I’ve been bullied before, and I dream of a peaceful home without other cats, or dogs, where I can finally relax and be myself.
I’m neutered, vaccinated, and ready to give my heart to someone who will never leave me behind again. I do have FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus), but with proper care, I can live a long, happy life. This is a cat-only virus and cannot be passed to humans or to other species of animals.
I was promised a forever home once. I still believe it’s out there. Will you be the one to give me the ending I’ve been waiting for?
The adoption fee is at your discretion and is a donation to our rescue. Manatee, Hillsborough, Sarasota, and Pinellas counties only. We ONLY accept online applications. Please apply to adopt him online at https://www.duetteanimalrescueteam.org/online-adoption-application.
Thank you for caring.

More about this rescue

We founded the Duette Animal Rescue Team (DART) in 2020 in Manatee County. DART is a volunteer-based animal welfare organization dedicated to rescuing former domestic and exotic pets such as prosimians and cats with behavioral challenges. We learned about the plight for exotic pets held in captivity and lack of understanding of the care they need as wild animals. We support causes that advocate for the conservation of these species in the wild in their native countries. By working with a network of zo's, private owners, zoo staff volunteer advocates, foster caregivers, local veterinarians, trainers, and shelters,
DART strives to rescue animals and provide these animals with behavioral rehabilitation and care. We catch cats to assist with the management of stray cat overpopulation in the community. We rehabilitate the cats so that we can put them up for adoption and have a better quality of life. For example, cat litter box training and socialization.
