My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Siren: A Sweet Soul Seeking a Quiet Harbor

Siren is a resilient girl who came to us after kind citizens rescued her. She has shown incredible progress and is ready to leave the stress of the shelter behind for a calm, stable home.

Her Journey and Progress
•Growing Confidence: Though she was initially fearful—especially around new people and men—Siren has surprised and delighted our staff by warming up to both male and female volunteers! This shows her strong willingness to trust when given patience and kindness.
•Dog-Friendly: Siren did well with the resident dogs in her foster home and has gradually relaxed during structured shelter playgroups, allowing greetings and even showing brief moments of playfulness.
•Home Habits: She appeared to be housebroken while in foster care.

Finding Siren`s Ideal Home
Siren is a special dog who needs a special environment to truly thrive. Her ideal home is one that can offer security, stability, and quiet comfort:
•Security & Confidence: Siren needs a quiet, low-traffic home where she can feel secure and continue building her confidence at her own pace.
•Storm Management: The shelter environment has exacerbated her storm anxiety. She needs an adopter who can gently and proactively manage her storm fears (with training and, potentially, veterinary guidance) so she doesn`t have to face them alone.
•Resource Management: She previously showed resource guarding around food. This is a common and manageable behavior that requires an owner who can commit to positive-reinforcement training and smart management techniques (like separate feeding areas).

Siren has already shown us her spirit is strong and her heart is open. She has been brave enough to start trusting us; now she just needs a committed hero to guide her through her next chapter. If you have a quiet home and a patient heart, Siren is waiting for you!

More about this shelter

Marion County Animal Services is the largest animal shelter in our county. Operating as a no-kill shelter, our kennels are almost always full. We provide adoption, fostering opportunities, work with rescues, accept volunteers and provide the training for veterinary assisting students. In addition, we run the Neuter Commuter and provide all animal control services in Marion County.
Due to the sheer volume of animals in our care, we need lots of help from our community in our effort to adopt out more and save more!
We don't only accept the ideal animals into our shelter. We can offer you quite the array of animal breeds and personalites! Keep an open mind when visiting our shelter- you may find that your perfect match is not at all what you set out to find.
We're here to help you as well as our homeless and lovable animals.
