My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This beautiful kitty with the stunning eyes is Cashmere. She is a special little kitty who is looking to find the perfect home.

Cashmere and her siblings were rescued from a hoarding situation when they were only 2 weeks old. They grew up in one of our foster homes and most of Cashmere's littermates were adopted when they were young. Unfortunately, poor little Cashmere was the runt of the litter and had some challenges when she was growing. When Cashmere was 6 months old she was as tiny as an 8 week old kitten. She had test after test and saw a veterinary specialist, but the only thing that could be found to be causing her poor growth was an inability for her to properly digest her food. Poor Cashmere would eat and eat but she wasn't absorbing the nutrients from her food so she couldn't grow. The great news is that Cashmere has outgrown this issue and is now eating and digesting like a normal cat. She will always be tiny but Cashmere has the energy of a big cat!

One of the downsides to Cashmere experiencing such a difficult kittenhood is that she is nervous of being handled. She had lots of tests and medications and injections when she was younger, so it made her hand-shy. Despite this, Cashmere has grown up in a home with people so she's very used to being around a family. She understands household sounds and is very interactive. She chats, and follows you around if she thinks that food might be on the horizon. If you are willing to give Cashmere a chance you can bet that she wont cuddle you, but she will entertain endlessly with her shenanigans.

Due to the fact that Cashmere was 'starving' as a youngster, she is incredibly food motivated. If there is food in front of her, she will gobble it. This is beneficial to help with her socialization and bonding. However, Cashmere has the potential to become obese if she is allowed to free-feed. It will be very important that Cashmere has regular feedings with measure food amounts to keep her in a healthy body weight.

Although Cashmere doesn't enjoy cuddles form people, she absolutely loves other cats. It will be really important for Cashmere to go to a home where there are other felines that will want to be her friend. She is very playful and wont be the right fit for an old or low-key cat. Cashmere loves to play and race around with her friends. Since she's small, she wont be the right fit for a large cat that wants to wrestle her, but a smaller kitty who wants to play race cars (zoomies) with her, would be great. Ideally, a friendly cat that will help Cashmere learn how to trust her new family, and to come out of her shell, will be best.

Cashmere is not comfortable around children or dogs.

Additional adoption info

Adopting a pet is a lifetime commitment and a big responsibility. Dogs can live 15 years or more, and cats can live 20+ years. Like people, each individual pet comes with its own set of baggage, needs, and personality traits. Because your new pet will depend on you to provide its basic needs, we need to be sure that you are educated and up to the challenge. Our adoption process allows us to ask you some questions about your home environment, your lifestyle, and your needs, expectations, and limitations. We want to be sure that your new pet is going to be just as happy in its new home as you are to have it there.
A Successful Adoption Process Includes the Following Steps:
To start the adoption process, please contact us at victoriapets@gmail.com and request an adoption application. Once it is completed, email it back to the same address and in the body of your email, please tell us about your home/family. If there is a particular pet that you're interested in, please indicate which. Our adoption team will contact those whose applications have the potential to be the best match with the pet(s) of interest to set up a visit supervised by the foster parent who can answer some of the questions you may have about the pet. You will not be able to take the pet home the day of the visit.
One of our volunteers will contact you within 72 hours of the visit and we will open a dialogue with you based on the information provided in your application. We will talk about your home and family, as well as your experience with pets. We will ask you to tell us about the kind of life and care you can offer to the adopted pet, and we will inform you about any health or behavioural issues that you should be aware of.
(For dogs only) Once an adoption is pending, we will come visit your home to ensure that the environment is suitable for the pet in question, based on its needs. We can advise you of modifications that could make the adoption more successful, such as fencing and other things you may not have thought about.
The adoption process generally takes several days, and this time line is intentional. It allows you time to think about your decision so that you can be sure that you are comfortable with the decision that you’ve made. Adoptions are never approved within 48 hours of the application being submitted.
Once we have successfully journeyed through the steps above, you can pick up your new friend to begin a wonderful life together!
Signing an adoption contract is a requirement for every pet that is adopted.
Please Read Before Applying to Adopt:
You must be 19 years of age or older to apply for one of our pets.
