My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hello, I'm Selena, a sweet, friendly, and gentle soul. My days are filled with purrs and soft nudges, my way of showing affection. I am a mother to five wonderful kittens. I love them dearly, and have taught them to be as loving and gentle as me. I was their comfort, their guide, their protector. Now that my babies are weaned and ready to forge their own path in life, I yearn for a home where I can share my love, my gentleness, my sweet nature. If you're looking for a companion to share your quiet moments with, to provide comfort on a lonely day, or to simply enjoy the peaceful rhythm of life with, I am here. Adopt me, and let's create a loving story together.

Note from Paws humans: Selena arrived at Paws Animal Shelter with five kittens who were just two weeks old. The entire family went into foster care right away, where they were very socialized and loved. As a result, they're all super friendly. Selena's foster mom describes her as follows: 'Selena was a wonderful, if exhausted, mother. She took loving care of her kittens, and was unbelievably patient with them, even when they thought jumping on her and pulling her tail was loads of fun! Once the kittens were weaned and returned to the shelter, we kept Selena for three weeks so her milk could dry up and she could then be spayed. She missed her kittens, but she also just laid around the first week and caught up on her rest! After that she loved to spend time with us, and is just a super sweet cat.. By week three she was recovered enough to start playing, chasing toys, and acting like the very young cat she is!' More about this shelter

The Champaign County Humane Association, Inc. (CCHA) was founded in 1977, initially relying solely on fosters to care for stray animals. In 1991 they opened Paws Animal Shelter in Champaign County, a rural county with a total population of about 39,000. In 2018 the CCHA decided to transition Paws Animal Shelter to a cat-only facility, as there is a desperate need in our area for additional shelter spaces for cats and kittens.

Thanks to a generous donation we were able to expand our shelter in 2021, which has enabled us to rescue even more cats and kittens. While this is obviously a positive development, it has definitely increased our operating costs, as so many cats and kittens that we take in have not been spayed or neutered. In addition, many cats that are surrendered to us have not been in homes with the financial resources to properly care for them, so we frequently have to pay for dentals and other expensive procedures. We are passionate about saving as many cats and kittens as possible, and they have a home with us until we find a forever home for them!
