My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Name: Doris aka Dora

Breed: Pit Bull Terrier Mix

Sex/age/weight: Female/ estimated DOB 03/2013 /52lbs

Vetting: Up to date on vaccines, spayed, microchipped, heartworm negative and on preventatives. Dora had a complex mammary carcinoma, grade I (low grade), excised. Among malignant mammary neoplasms, complex carcinomas are considered to have a relatively less aggressive clinical course, with lower reported rates of recurrence and metastasis. Monitoring of the area for recurrence is recommended.

House trained/crate trained: This sweet senior lady is fully house-trained and crate-trained. She knows her routine, does her business outside, and keeps her space clean. She's comfortable in her crate and will settle in calmly when needed, though she’s just as happy lounging nearby as your quiet, loyal companion. Her mature manners make her an easy and peaceful addition to any home.

Dogs/cats/children: Dora is a gentle soul who gets along well with other dogs and is cat-friendly with supervision. Since she has limited hearing and vision, she appreciates calm, respectful interactions—especially with feline friends. She does well with other dogs who match her mellow energy and aren’t too overwhelming. Dora is also kid-friendly and would do best in a home with older, dog-savvy children who can understand and respect her sensory limitations. Her sweet nature shines in a peaceful, loving environment where she can feel safe and included.

Energy level: Dora has a wonderfully low energy level, perfect for a calm and relaxed home. She enjoys leisurely strolls and plenty of quiet time, preferring to spend her days resting and soaking up affection. She’s not demanding or high-energy, making her an ideal companion for someone looking for a peaceful, easygoing friend.

Before FAR/my history: Dora was picked up by Jones County ACS as a stray.

Things I like: Dora is a true lover of the simple pleasures in life. She adores her naps and can often be found peacefully resting in her favorite spot. Mealtime and treats are highlights of her day—she enjoys them with enthusiasm! Dora also loves rolling around in the grass on sunny days and absolutely melts for gentle belly rubs. While she enjoys short walks to stretch her legs and explore, she’s perfectly content to relax and take things slow.

Things that make my humans happy: Dora’s sweet and gentle demeanor has truly won our hearts. Seniors have a calm, loving presence, and she is no exception—her quiet companionship brings a wonderful sense of peace to our home. While she’s not as active as she once was, her warm spirit and affectionate nature continue to brighten our days and put smiles on our faces. Having Dora in our lives has been a joyful experience, and we know she will bring the same love and comfort to her forever family.

Ideal family/home: Dora would thrive in a calm, loving home that appreciates the gentle pace of senior life. Her ideal family would be patient and understanding of her hearing and vision impairments, offering a peaceful environment where she can feel safe and cherished. A home with other mellow pets and older, respectful children would be a great fit, as Dora enjoys quiet companionship without too much bustle. Because she has a low energy level, Dora is perfect for someone seeking a relaxed companion to share leisurely walks, sunny naps, and plenty of gentle affection. Families who love including their dog in everyday life—without overwhelming her—will find Dora to be a deeply rewarding and loving friend.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Our adoption process starts with the potential adopter filling out an adoption application. In the application, you can specify a particular dog in which you are interested, or let us know what type of pet in which you are looking, so we can find the perfect animal to fit your family and your needs. Once the application is received, a board member will review the application, and make contact with the potential adopter within 48 hours. This initial contact may include further questions/more information, or may include scheduling a meet and greet for you to meet the animal in which you are interested! Once the application is approved or the meet and greet goes well, then the adoption can be finalized. To finalize the adoption, an adoption agreement must be completed, the adoption fee paid (we accept cash, paypal, or credit/debit card), and then the potential adopter can take their new family member home with them or schedule pick up of their furry family member! The adoption fee varies based on the dog or puppy you are interested in. Some of the adoption fees have been listed on the individual dog's description but if you do not see one then please reach out and we would be happy to talk to you about it! If you are interested in any of our animals, please feel free to contact us with any questions you may have!!

Go meet their pets

We hold adoption events some Saturdays at various locations around middle GA from 11 am-3 pm. Check our Facebook page for updates on Events! We are also able to arrange meet and greets for local adopters!

More about this rescue

Furever After Rescue, a 501(c)(3) organization, is a no-kill, foster-based rescue devoted to finding homes for animals needing a loving home. Most of our animals come from local, high-kill shelters with some occasionally coming from bad situations and owner surrender. Our animals are immediately placed in foster homes where they learn love and are taught how to live in a home environment. All of our animals are up-to-date on their age-appropriate vetting needs and are tested for personality traits as best as possible. We have many wonderful pets looking for forever homes!
