My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Dolly has been loving the extra encouragement to lounge around and cuddle with her favorite human as she continues to recover from her recent surgery removing 4 small masses.
A little about Dolly: she is approximately 5 years old, an absolute sweetheart (has so much love to give once trust has been established), a homebody, enjoys/does well with routine, and loves to eat (enjoys eating from a snuff mat).
She would do best in an adult only home and due to her history of TVT is cured.

  • Committed to continuing her veterinary care

  • Loving, patient, and ready to celebrate her strength

  • FairyTAILS do come true!!

Meet Dolly, a girl who started her life forging for food on the streets of Roatan, Honduras. She was homeless and struggling to survive. Dolly dreamed of a life where she could be loved and live in a home with a warm bed to sleep on and food in her belly.

One day, Dolly came upon a building where she could hear lots of kitties inside – they seemed to be having so much fun! Little did she know that this moment would change her life forever. You see, this building was special – it was the cat condo where Flight Angels of Roatan took care of kitties and nursed them back to health before they were flown on their freedom flights to the US.

Roatan, Honduras is overpopulated with cats and dogs who often experience very short lives as they are unable to survive in the jungle for long. The kitties inside the building were given a second chance at life – Dolly wanted this so badly for herself…but she was not a kitty and the deportation regulations for dogs are very different with bigger challenges.

Dolly hung out at Flight Angels of Roatan everyday – she befriended the rescue founder, Angie, and was given food, water and cared for best as possible while still living outside. Dolly didn’t know that this situation would soon come to a close – the rescue would be forced to shut its doors, and she would once-again be struggling to survive.

In April, the sun, moon and stars all came together to change Dolly’s destiny when Michele’s Rescue visited Flight Angels of Roatan. While bringing donations to the cat condo, Michele’s Rescue met and fell in love with Dolly.  The 2 rescues came together to devise a plan to save Dolly.

    This plan involved:

    •    8 Days of travel

    •    3,833 Miles

    •    4 (!) Countries

    •    1 Ferry

    •    1 Transport Van

    •    4 Cars driven by volunteers that relayed Dolly across the last 5 states, handing her off to each other to get her the final stretch to Grand Rapids MI.

    •    2 Dedicated and Passionate Rescues

Dolly arrived in Grand Rapids on July 5 – ironically with fireworks overhead as downtown Grand Rapids celebrated America’s Independence….which was now Dolly’s celebration as well!

Dolly is currently in a foster home enjoying love, a warm bed and food in her belly. She is waiting for the final leg in her incredible journey – a furever family she can call her own! Dolly is good with dogs and cats. She is very sweet and on the shy side. She would thrive in a quiet household where she can chill on the sofa and reflect on her fairyTAIL new life!

Dolly’s story is one of resilience, and she’s ready to write her next chapter with someone who sees her not just as a survivor—but as a treasure.

More about this rescue

Michele's Rescue is a 501c3 non profit rescue as of Sept. 2009! I have been doing rescue as early as 1997 and have found my place in life with animals and animal rescue. Michele's Rescue is currently adopting kittens, cats, puppies, dogs and some small animals in need of placement of permanent homes. I help other rescues with overflow and fostering as well as transporting of animals from shelters to breed specific rescues. Michele's Rescue has several volunteers who help with adoptions at Petsmart due to the overpopulation in West Michigan. I am also proud to say that I am the founder of the West Michigan Spay and Neuter Clinic in Fruitport, Michigan!
