My name is Te Ka!

Te Ka is a striking Blue and Gold Macaw with a bold presence and an observant, curious nature. While he can be cautious with new people, he bonds closely with his person and enjoys gentle handling, especially head scratches and belly rubs.

He’s vocal, expressive, and social on his own terms, known to say “hi there,” “stop it,” and even mimic a dog’s bark. Te Ka thrives on music, activity, and being part of the energy in a home. He’ll sing along, dance, and make it clear when he wants attention.

Te Ka enjoys regular out-of-cage time in a secure, bird-safe space. He’s food-motivated and engages well with training and enrichment, especially toys he can chew and activities that keep his mind busy. He’s lived around other birds and animals but isn’t bonded to any and prefers limited interaction.

He needs a home with someone who understands the needs and challenges of large parrots, including their noise level, mess, and the commitment required to meet their physical and emotional needs.

A quarantine period and slow introductions are strongly recommended.

Minimum cage size is 40" wide x 30" deep. Larger is strongly preferred: 48" x 36" or 64" x 32" double cages are ideal.

We are happy to consider applicants from out of state on most animals. Please read the description to see if this bird is an exception. If the applicant is approved to adopt, they MUST be willing to come to our location in Troy, VA, for a meet and greet. If all parties agree that the bird and family are a good fit, they would take the bird home at that time.
