My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Ouiser
8 years old • 12.5 lbs • Chinese Crested or Xoloitzcuintle (hairless breed) / Yorkie mix

Looking for a loyal little shadow with a heart of gold? Meet Ouiser—a partially blind sweetheart who proves that small dogs can have the biggest personalities. Her vision may be limited, but her love for people is crystal clear. She adores being around her humans, following them from room to room just to be part of the action. When she’s had her fill of affection and excitement, she’ll find a quiet, cozy corner to curl up for a well-deserved nap.

Ouiser loves gentle attention, soft snuggles, and calm companionship. She’s happiest as the only pet, or sharing space with very easygoing animals who respect her boundaries. Her silly little snorts, loyal heart, and affectionate nature will quickly win you over once she feels safe and settled.

When she’s not snoozing or lounging in a sunny spot, Ouiser enjoys short walks, soaking up fresh air, and proudly carrying around her favorite plush toys. With her low-to-medium energy and simple grooming routine (a few trims and a touch of sun protection), she’s an easy, loving companion ready to make every day a little brighter.

✨ Ouiser’s Perfect Match:
-Someone who loves having a sweet, snuggly sidekick
-A calm home with no pets
-People who appreciate a mix of sass, softness, and soulful eyes

If you’re a Steel Magnolias fan, you’ll recognize her name—and her spark. Like her namesake, Ouiser is funny, feisty, and full of love once you’re in her circle. If you’ve ever said, “I’m not crazy, I’ve just been in a very bad mood for 40 years,” and laughed about it—you might be exactly her kind of person.

Adoption Info
Dogs aren’t placed on a first-come, first-serve basis—we match each animal to their best home. Applications may take up to 48 hours to process. All CAWS animals are fixed, microchipped, and vaccinated. Ouiser’s adoption fee has been generously sponsored by a kind donor!

Additional adoption info

Since we make a lifetime commitment to any animal that comes into our program, we only adopt out animals to people in our area..

If you are interested in adopting a CAWS cat or dog, please fill out the online application at http://www.caws.org/application/, email adopt@caws.org or call 328-4731. For the most timely response applying online is recommended.

We respond as quickly as possible but as we are a volunteer based organization and do not have full time staff, we respond as quickly as possible.

Go meet their pets

CAWS does not have a conventional shelter facility - all CAWS animals waiting for adoption are in foster homes. The number of animals we can help find new homes for is closely linked to how many CAWS foster homes are available. For additional information regarding how you, too, can become a foster, please see our fostering page located on our web site!

CAWS volunteers bring cats and dogs to the PetSmart near 2100 South and 300 West in South Salt Lake on the third and fourth weekends of each month

We are also at the Sugarhouse PETCO (1165 Wilmington Ave) the first Saturday of each month.
