Stetson is a handsome draft cross gelding in his mid-to-late teens, standing a solid 16 hands. With “been there, done that” experience, Stetson has done it all—from trail riding in Yellowstone to schooling cross-country courses here in Pennsylvania.
Since arriving at Last Chance Ranch, Stetson has participated in our lesson program, worked with campers during summer programs, and even traveled off-site to shows at the Bucks County Horse Park—where he truly enjoyed the cross-country course! He’s trained in both English and Western, neck reins easily, and has proven himself as a versatile, well-rounded mount that would excel in any direction. He would do best with an intermediate or above rider, he is a solid walk/trot horse who is still green at the canter and jumping.
Stetson is now ready to find a home where he can enjoy one-on-one attention. While he's been a lesson horse, he thrives best in a private setting with a rider who can give him the connection and consistency he deserves. He is sensitive to changes in his herd and prefers to settle in as a middle-ranking horse. Being pushed into a dominant or submissive role tends to make him anxious and affects his rest and demeanor.
In 2024, Stetson had squamous cell carcinoma removed from his left eye. To protect the area and prevent recurrence, he requires a fly mask to be worn 24/7. Additionally, he occasionally comes up mildly unsound on his left front, though no definitive cause has been determined. He’s still very capable of light to moderate work and would make a fantastic partner for someone looking for a kind, experienced, and steady gelding to enjoy at home or on low-key adventures.

This pet may have received other medical procedures, testing, surgeries, grooming that will necessitate a higher fee to cover these procedures. You will be provided with all medical records and certificates, leash, collar, starter packet of information. While we hope all our dogs find their exact forever home the first time they get placed, sometimes it just doesn't work out. Even after 6 months or 6 years, we are still here for you if you would ever need a home or help with your adopted pet. We also offer a lifetime of support and advice if necessary to help you work through any issues with your new adopted pet and your family. Our adoption fees help pay for the spaying/neutering, health care and food for rescued dogs, horses, cats and other companion animals that live at the rescue. If it seems high to you then you should reconsider adopting an animal as the cost of veterinary, preventative, and personal care over the life of an animal is not something to be taken lightly.
