Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Howdy partners! Meet Texa!
Texa, a female Catahoula Leopard Dog/Shepherd mix, is around 5 years old and weighs 43 lbs. She was taken in by APA in July 2025 after her previous shelter flooded.
The first things to know about Texa are that she's super housetrained, non-destructive, does well alone, is quiet, and very loyal and affectionate towards her people. Texa makes no accidents (given a regular bathroom schedule) and never chews on stuff she shouldn't.
While in her foster home, Texa has made great progress on leash! With dedicated leash training, she'll continue to make improvements on staying right by you and walking like a champ.
Texa bonds super easily to people. Approach her gently, give her a treat or two, and in minutes she'll be asking you to pet her with big puppy eyes and her ears back. Texa loves affection from her people the most, bar none. She will take pets and love over treats any day. When it's relaxing time she likes to make contact with you, but if you make it clear that you want to be separate from her she'll eventually head over to her own space, be it her favorite spot on the floor or her bed.
Texa has a beautiful double coat that will need some extra pampering. Regular brushing is a great way to bond with her, and she has had positive reactions to grooming tools (even if blowdryers are a little scary!) Meet her with steady encouragement, and she'll handle consistent grooming times with ease.
Texa is a beautiful and lovely dog, and she really loves people more than anything. She would do best in a house with plenty of space where she can stretch her legs, and would absolutely love to be your one and only pet. Please help her find her forever home and inquire about her!
