My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Please contact ADOPTION (adopt@doggieharmony.org) for more information about this pet.

A good Samaritan rescued Indy from being abandoned . He is fostering in a home with an older, easily stressed small dog and 2 kittens - Indy has too much interest in the kittens so this is not the ideal situation.

We think this pup’s ideal home would be as a solo pet or possibly as a sibling to another large dog.

He is super friendly, playful, energetic, and sweet. He loves people, loves to be active, and enjoys playing fetch though he may get distracted here and there.

He’s very lovable! He is easy to bathe and does great in the car. He is very food and treat motivated so we believe he will take to additional training well.

He has a big heart and has a lot of love to give to anyone who wants to love him right back. We think he will make a great adventure buddy for a lucky person or family!

Working with him on sitting and leash training. He does well in the bath and the car

Age: approx 3-4 years

Weight:  70 lbs, underweight, working on improving that

Temperament: Gets along with with older kids, not tested with toddlers, other dogs his size, with proper introduction.

Training: Housetrained, crate-trained

Vetting: neutered, up-to-date on vaccines, heartworm  treatment is paid for and underway.

To ensure we're meeting both pet and adopters' needs, we ask potential adopters to complete an Adoption Application (www.bit.ly/DH-Adoption) for caretakers to review. Once your application is approved, we will bring the adoptable pet to your home for a preliminary visit.

We are 100% donation-funded and our fees are equivalent to (or less than) the cost to fully vet a new dog yourself.

Additional adoption info

Those interested in dogs on our site are asked submit an application that we share with this dog's current caretaker. The caretaker reviews it to see if the pup would make a good fit for your home and if so, they will follow up with a phone interview. If you both agree it's a match, you would sign a contract, pay a fee and receive your dog within 2 weeks.

If both caretaker and applicant agree that the dog is a great fit, a contract is signed between the parties and the adoption fee is $400.00-$450.00 and is collected via PayPal. This adoption fee covers the cost of transport and also ensures the dog has all of it's basic vetting to include spay/neuter, shots, etc.

Go meet their pets

Our dogs travel from Atlanta, Georgia directly to their adoptive homes in the northeast. Our transporter drives up the coast from DC, all the way to the Northeastern states.

While you can't meet our dogs prior to adoption, we will speak with you extensively, provide videos, share trainer evaluations and offer proof of vetting to ensure our dogs are a match for your home. Those that aren't at match, would be returned to us here in Atlanta at no cost to the adopter.

We also have partners in the Northeast who can help us facilitate adoptions and/or returns.

More about this rescue

Doggie Harmony was founded in Atlanta in 2009 by Liz Mansour and Jamie Sprague, a couple of neighbors seeking to help stray dogs that turned up locally.

From there, Doggie Harmony expanded to other neighborhoods and other people who found dogs and eventually, it was realized that nearly every neighborhood in Georgia found strays, most of which ended up in our grossly over-populated county shelters. With an estimated 300,000 unwanted pets destroyed yearly in Georgia shelters, we realized we had to find more homes to put them in.

In 2012, we began building partnerships with northeastern rescues and developed a consistent process for matching our dogs to great people and delivering those dogs to their homes up there. To become even more self-sufficent and less burdensome on our northeastern friends, we decided to launch Doggie Harmony Northeast.
