My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Merlin Fitzpatrick

About 3 years old
25pound ish
Kelpie mix

Smiles for miles.

Merlin Fitzpatrick and he’s forever present smile, a shining beacon of unwavering optimism is here to cheer up the gloomiest of your days.
Merlin journey is a testament of resilience, strength and adaptability. He has found himself in high kill shelter, heartworm positive, missing fur due to flea infestation and in pain due to old leg injury. Picture of his infectious smile at the shelter grabbed a heart of a foster mom and new chapter in his life was beginning to take form.
He immediately started long and rather painful heartworm treatment, also upon further examination pain management plan was put in place for his untreated back leg injury. This brave little boy went through his treatment like a champ, with always present smile on his little face and his helicopter tail. His coat became full and luscious. He will need to continue with pain medication and supplements for duration of his life, thankfully all that is extremely wallet friendly. He walks with a limp and has the cutest little swagger in his front legs, but that doesn’t stop him from occasional zoomies session and unstoppable zest for life. He absolutely, mostly definitely, positively adores neighborhood walks. He walks beautifully on a leash, but will definitely bark at passing dogs and needs correction.

Despite his initial nervousness he will blossom into loving and loyal friend, he will be your couch partner for endless hours of golf, baseball or sob story on hallmark movie channel, he really isn’t picking, as long as you supply belly rubs, he’s your guy. In spite of his size, he is a great defender of his homestead full of courage and devotion and best to be put in his crate for safety of any new visitor.
Merlin is generally dog friendly, he has bit of Napoleon syndrome,he prefers larger or more laid back dogs, males or females, he needs to be reminded his place, but once he figures out where he belongs in hierarchy, he will have no problem falling into his place. He has not been tested with cats. He also would thrive much better in a house with older kids, who would be more aware of his small stature and mindful of occasional discomfort in his leg.

Merlin is housebroken and crate trained, he sleeps and spend time there while foster parents are at work. He loves his doggie bed to a point where he will choose to sleep in his crate over comfort of a couch, which he absolutely has no problem jumping on.
He loves food, he will happily bark and twirl jump to guide you to his crate to serve his meal. He especially loves his bits of hot dog treat, which unbeknownst to him has his pills. He loves to wonder, sniff and smell the yard, and have a lengthy discussion through the fence with neighbors dogs. He loves to keep company while his foster dad works on his woodworking projects, just lay by his feet, snap at occasional fly or hope for bits of crumbs to fall his way from humans lunch.
As most rescue dogs Merlin is no different, he isn’t perfect, but with patience and understanding once he learns he has found his people he will blossom into his full potential, we certainly hope it’s you.
