My name is Nalo!

Nalo is a beautiful Blue and Gold Macaw who does best in a quiet, predictable environment. He’s shy and observant, and while he isn’t comfortable with handling yet, he does enjoy receiving attention. He startles easily, especially around unfamiliar people, and will need a patient, experienced caregiver who understands that building trust with a bird like Nalo takes time.

He prefers short bursts of interaction and thrives on a consistent, calm routine. Nalo enjoys daily out-of-cage time and loves to chew on toys. He benefits from low-intensity enrichment like foraging activities and rotating toys to keep his environment engaging without being overwhelming. He has some experience around other birds and does well with them but has had limited exposure to other pets. His diet includes pellets, Nutri-Berries, vegetables, fruits, and nuts, and he is not a picky eater.

Nalo needs a home with someone who understands the noise, mess, and long-term care required for large parrots and is committed to providing structure, consistency, and time for adjustment. A slow, respectful approach will help him settle in and feel secure.

Please note: As with all parrots, a quarantine period and gradual introductions are recommended.

Minimum cage size is 40" wide by 30" deep. Larger options, such as 48" x 36" or 64" x 32", are preferred

We are happy to consider applicants from out of state on most animals. Please read the description to see if this bird is an exception. If the applicant is approved to adopt, they MUST be willing to come to our location in Troy, VA, for a meet and greet. If all parties agree that the bird and family are a good fit, they would take the bird home at that time.
