Caesar: A Loyal Heart Seeking a Patient, Understanding Home. Hello! My name is Caesar, and I'm a handsome Shepherd (and maybe Husky!) mix, estimated to be 1.5 years old and weighing 55 lbs. I was neutered in March. I was found in Fresno, California, and didn't have much exposure to the world before coming into rescue. Because of this, I can be quite fearful and reactive towards new people and other dogs. I need a truly understanding and patient adopter who is committed to helping me feel secure and confident. While I haven't had much early socialization or training, I'm a quick learner and brave. I'm surprisingly house-trained and do very well inside the home once I understand the routine. I've already made excellent progress in my foster home, showing that with consistency and the right environment, I can continue to blossom. I'm a truly wonderful companion. I'm a fast learner and quickly accept and respect new things or people once I'm familiar with them. I've learned to sit politely for what I want and will even show you to my leash when it's walk time! I love walks and would make a great hiking buddy. My foster mom says I'm pretty strong – it must be the Husky in me! I wear a prong collar for walks, but I'm learning good leash manners. I also have a strong prey drive and am diligent about pursuing squirrels in the yard – this bodes well for your garden this summer! Initially, I was pretty reactive to vehicles passing by, particularly loud trucks or fast- moving cars. I have spent lots of time desensitizing and am much less concerned with cars on the road. Turns out, I happen to love riding in the car! I will very willingly “load up” and then enjoy the views and fresh air with my head out the window. The Shepherd in me loves to please, and I pick up new tricks quickly. I already know SIT, DOWN, and SHAKE, and we're working on STAY. I'm still a bit of a puppy at heart, playful with my toys (stuffed animals, ropes and things I can swing around are my favorite) and I’m always up for a good roll in the grass. I will patrol the yard, but generally refrain from barking at passersby. Even with yard access, I prefer being with my people if they are indoors. I like to lounge on the bed while you get ready for the day. And once I get to know you, I’ll snuggle with you on the couch. What I Need in a Home Due to my fear-based aggression, I need a home without small children. I could enjoy sleeping in on the weekends with a teenager who enjoys canine companionship. I’ve never been around a cat but would likely be inclined to chase them. I need a home with a secure yard and will always need to be on leash and harness when outside of the home.
