My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Ernesto was found as a stray on the streets of NYC. The police brought him to the New York Animal Care Centers, the NYC municipal animal shelter. Once at the shelter, he demonstrated behaviors related to stress; leash biting, head whipping, leash biting etc. These are behaviors most dogs show at the shelter. It's a scary place. It's a noisy place. It's a strange place.

His time was coming to a close and he could have been a casualty but an amazing couple came to his rescue to save his life.

Today Ernesto is learning fear doesn't have to be part of his life. He's learning. to trust again.

These are ERNESTO'S STATS:

Approximate age 4 years, 5 Months
Approximate weight 60lbs
Breed (s) Medium mixed breed
Spayed or neutered? yes

Good with:
kids? Unsure but likely fine just not small children (working on jumping) therefore older children over 13+
Strangers? Love strangers and meeting people
other dogs? Interested but non reactive on leash
cats? n/a
On leash? Working on leash walking and learning very quickly!
Housetrained? Working on house training! Might have had an old UTI he is
recovering from
Crate trained? yes

Ernesto would thrive in a home that has some outdoor access where he can run and play! He also much prefers to use grass or trees for his business so if he could be let out quickly he would be happy as a clam. An active home that loves games like fetch, tug, and catch would also be ideal as Ernesto loves nothing more than to have fun with humans. He’s athletic and would love someone who can keep up with him.

Ernesto is a very loving, sweet boy. He loves belly scritches and butt rubs. He loves toys and puzzles as he is very intelligent and a quick learner. His favorite snacks are EZ Cheez and ice cubes which he politely asks for anytime his humans make a drink. His Kong is currently his favorite toy but he is an equal opportunity player. He also adores natural chews like beef cheek and bully sticks. He also loves his crate and goes in there to relax or enjoy his special treats.

Ernesto was a long stay at the shelter and seems to have had little training in his
previous life. He is getting used to being a family dog and is learning very quickly but will need to continue training to be his best self!

Ernesto is a great, smart, loving, sociable dog! He turns heads on walks with how cute and sweet he is.
