My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Cautious, Calm, Tender

Please give a mellow welcome to Sweet BBQ Chicken, a mild older gentleman looking for a place where he can feel safe to be himself.

Sweet BBQ Chicken needs space and time to feel secure and comfortable. He is very interested in being your friend, though, and your patience will be rewarded with quiet companionship. He will initially situate himself in small areas, like under a desk or table, but he is paying attention to what is going on at all times. Once he realizes that he is in a calm place that will respect his boundaries, he will happily show off his sweet purrsonality.

Not a fan of sudden movements, Sweet BBQ Chicken ducks away from wands and other small toys. He likes to chill out on the couch and you'll delight in watching him curl up in a little kitty ball as he naps. He also enjoys a sunny windowsill and will pass the time watching outdoor tv. Sweet BBQ Chicken might not be ready for heavy cuddling just yet, but he does appreciate having company in the room with him. Cautious about his environment, this adorable fellow does enjoy being pet on his terms. He likes to walk back and forth in front of you so you can pet him over and over as he purrs encouragingly and lets out the occasional chirpy meow.

Sweet BBQ Chicken's ideal home is one that is patient and gentle. He doesn't have any known interactions with other cats, a negative experience with a high energy dog, and positive interactions with children who understand how to give him the space and time he needs to feel comfortable and safe. He needs a family that won't push him or pressure him to be social or affectionate beyond his abilities. He will get there in his own time and you will be so happy you gave him the time to feel safe with you. He will be a constant and warm companion who will form a strong bond once he's in a happy place where he can relax and feel love.

One of the main benefits of fostering is that potential adopters can learn about a cat's demeanor outside of the busy - sometimes chaotic - shelter environment. Sweet BBQ Chicken's foster has given him the love and patience to blossom into his full confident self.

You can check out his transformation, and watch him make his patented floor biscuits, on social media at www.instagram.com/givemethatcatatx
