Meet Athena! She’s a gorgeous, nearly 5-year-old Husky/Malamute mix who is sweet, social, great with kids and other dogs, and happiest exploring the outdoors—especially in the snow. Athena has separation anxiety and cannot be kenneled, as it causes her extreme stress (shaking, panting, drooling, and escape attempts). She cannot be off-leash due to unreliable recall and a strong instinct to run. While she has scheduled potty breaks and follows strict feeding and watering routines, she still occasionally has indoor accidents. Athena is very high energy and needs daily exercise like runs, hikes, and mental stimulation; without it, she will get into trash, counter-surf, or become destructive. She would thrive with an active person or family who is home often, experienced with northern breeds, and can provide structure and possibly other canine companionship. She is not a good fit for homes with small animals or livestock, or for first-time or low-maintenance-seeking owners.
