Tandy is a bright and busy 4 year old hound mix! This 60 lb black and tan boy with his flowing gait and kind eyes is high-energy and vocal. He is super playful and loves all types of toys. He's highly food motivated and knows sit. He's even an expert treat catcher.
Tandy keeps a clean kennel. He is dog friendly, and he's doing well at integrating into our large dog playgroups. Tandy is very environmentally focused and loves sniffing, so his leash-walking could use some work. He enjoys rolling around on the grass, tummy up, and he's inclined to roll around even happier while accepting your tummy rubs.
Tandy is friendly and social, but he's not a needy or cuddly dog. This doesn't mean that he does not need or enjoy human interaction - in fact, like most dogs, he craves it! However, he is the type of dog that is going to prefer a connection built on a foundation of play and working together instead of sitting on the bed cuddling. Once you've proved to him that you're worth paying attention to and have built that foundation, he initiates affection with you - a reward worth earning.
Tandy will soon have been at Faithful Friends for 6 months with very little interest. While he has held up very well so far, kennel stress is definitely starting to take hold. He's having a hard time keeping his body condition up (meaning he loses weight despite eating enough calories). Even with multiple playgroups throughout the day, he still is spending 22+ hours a day inside a noisy kennel. For a bright and active dog like Tandy, it's just too much. Winter is going to be tough on him as outside time gets reduced due to the weather. For his wellbeing, we'd love to find him an adoptive or foster home for the holidays.
Tandy was found as a stray, and his original finders cared for him for about two weeks. When he first showed up at their driveway, his paw pads had been scraped and burned so badly that he could not walk well. With some TLC, they were able to get him up and moving quickly. They shared that he was wonderful with their grandkids and that he rides great in the car!

More about this shelter
Faithful Friends Animal Advocates, Inc is a non-profit organization committed to helping our community become a place where animals are treated with kindness and respect. Further, we want to be a voice for the welfare of animals in our community through various avenues.
We fulfill these goals by taking in homeless and vulnerable animals, rehabilitating, vetting, and preparing them for their future home, and ensuring that they are a good fit for those interested. Our goal is longevity - we are thorough when approving applications because we want their next home to be forever.
Our pledge to the animals under our charge knows no time limits. Our no-kill mission means that as long as it takes, we will keep searching for their perfect home. And if during that search, they need to rejoin our care, we welcome them with open arms no matter how long it has been.
People
From our paid staff to volunteers that support us at events and throughout the week, the dedicated and passionate community members that are involved in FFAA's mission are what keep us going. We always welcome new faces! If you are interested or know someone who would like to support our efforts, please contact us. We could not do it without our foster families, dog walkers, kennel cleaners, puppy and kitten socializers, event organizers, artists, chefs - everything we do is a group effort and thanks to the time and effort given freely and faithfully year after year.
