My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

💙 Meet Maverick 💙

Behind those striking blue eyes is a dog with a story — and a second chance.

Maverick has been through a lot in his short life, but thanks to his wonderful foster and trainer, Donna, he’s learning what it means to feel safe, understood, and loved. 💫

This handsome one-year-old is active, intelligent, and full of personality. He thrives on structure and clear direction, and he’s been working hard on his manners, leash skills, and confidence around new people and environments.

Maverick would do best in an adult-only home where he can be the only dog — a home that appreciates his need for guidance and continued training. In return, he’ll give his whole heart and loyalty to the person who believes in him. 💙

Sometimes the best dogs are the ones who’ve had to learn how to trust again.

If you’re experienced with dogs and ready to open your home to a beautiful work-in-progress, Maverick is ready to meet you.

More about this shelter

A not-for-profit organization, Monroe County Friends of Animals help the County by raising funds to build a new facility for our animals. It is called the Eastbourne Animal Center and has now replaced the old Monroe County Animal Shelter. They provide volunteers, fundraising events, grant writing and more. There is always a need for more volunteers. With a small budget, donations are a welcome necessity. We have developed educational programs to promote spay/neuter and humane care of all animals.
