My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi there! I’m Patti, a petite German Shepherd with a big personality and an even bigger heart.

I’m an active, curious girl who enjoys exploring and staying busy. I’m confident and smart, and I do best when I have clear boundaries and a secure setup that keeps me safe- 6.5 ft fences or taller would be best! With the right environment and guidance, I really thrive.

In the mornings, I politely sit by the door so my foster can get my special walking collar on (it helps keep me secure), and then we head out for a walk. I’m learning leash manners and can settle into a nice rhythm, though squirrels and other small critters still get me pretty excited. I have a high prey drive, so continued training and consistency will be important for me. That also means I have fantastic potential for dog sports like FastCAT, agility, or other performance activities where I can channel my focus, speed, and enthusiasm in a healthy, rewarding way.

While I may be energetic and enthusiastic out in the world, at home I’m a total lovebug. Pet me once and I’m yours forever. I live for attention, cuddles, and good old-fashioned ear scritches. I have the sweetest disposition and nothing makes me happier than being close to my person.

I’m housebroken and already know how to sit and shake like a proper lady. Toys aren’t really my thing, but I do love to eat! I’ve got a healthy appetite and never miss a meal.

Because of my strong prey drive, I’m looking for a home with no cats and an experienced adopter who understands my confidence, energy, and need for structure. I may not be the right fit for every home, but for the right person, I’ll be an incredibly rewarding companion.

If you’re searching for a fun, affectionate sidekick with energy for days who can also melt into your lap for snuggles, I just might be your girl!

Go meet their pets

GHGSDR holds Meet and Greets @ several Petco stores in the Houston area each month, usually from 1pm to 4pm. Check our homepage for locations and dates.

On our homepage we list the names of the dogs that are expected to be at the event - check 1 or 2 days before the event.

We hope that you will come on out and meet some of our wonderful GSDs. Meet our volunteers and learn more about why GSDs are a wonderful breed!
See you there!

More about this rescue

GHGSDR volunteers are dedicated to saving as many German Shepherds in the Greater Houston Metro area as humanly possible - based on current resources of available foster homes, the rate at which we can find suitably matched adoptive homes, and of course, financial resources for veterinary care.

GHGSDR Shepherds mostly come from animal shelters where they are awaiting euthanasia. All of these Shepherd Dogs need loving, forever homes and families to call their own. We have several GSDs available for adoption and we regularly take in more Shepherds under our wings and into our Rescue Program, increasing the numbers of dogs available for adoption. Whenever we can, we also work with other dog rescue groups in Texas and nationwide to help ensure the safety and security of these wonderful animals.
