My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Rocco, our gorgeous tabby with a heart as big as his fluffy tail! 🐾 This handsome boy is the perfect mix of sweetness and spunk. Always up for a play session, Rocco loves chasing toys, exploring his surroundings, and keeping you entertained with his playful energy.

But don’t worry—he’s just as happy to curl up beside you when playtime’s over. Rocco is incredibly affectionate, gentle, and absolutely adores people, especially kids. His friendly personality makes him the perfect companion for a family looking for a loving, fun, and furry new friend.

With his soft coat and warm personality, Rocco is ready to bring joy, purrs, and endless cuddles into your home.

More about this shelter

The Gateway Area Humane Society was established in 1982 with a deep commitment to protecting and improving the lives of animals in our community. In the early years, we operated without a physical facility, focusing our efforts on neglect and cruelty investigations, follow-ups, and rescuing animals from county shelters and directly from the public. Even then, our goal was clear: to provide care, compassion, and second chances to animals in need.

Over the years, we've grown into a full-service organization with a shelter and spay/neuter clinic, allowing us to expand our impact. We house both dogs and cats with the hope of helping them find their forever homes. We occasionally partner with out-of-state rescues to further our mission.

At the heart of everything we do is the belief that the only long-term solution to pet overpopulation is to promote spaying and neutering in every way possible. Through community education, accessible services, and dedicated rescue work, we remain committed to creating a safer, more compassionate world for animals—one pet at a time.
