My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Lucy – Your Loyal, Loving Adventure Buddy!

Lucy is a smart, affectionate, and outgoing Catahoula mix with a gorgeous coat, stunning eyes, and a heart full of love for her people. At 3 years old and about 60 lbs, she’s the perfect blend of playful energy and mellow companionship—always ready for a walk, a game of fetch, or a good cuddle on the couch. She’s crate-trained, house-trained, rides well in the car, and walks nicely on leash. Lucy is well-mannered in the home, doesn’t jump, and is great at entertaining herself with her favorite toys—especially plush ones she can de-stuff! Lucy loves attention and thrives when she’s the center of a human’s world. While she enjoys playtime in the yard, her ideal home would be one without other dogs. She’s shown ongoing reactivity toward other dogs, especially inside the home, and while she’s improved on walks, she’s not a candidate for dog parks or multi-dog households. She is good with cats and children, and responds well to structure, guidance, and routine. She would do best in a moderately active home with adults or older teens and no other animals.
Lucy is a fast learner who’s eager to please and incredibly affectionate once she bonds with you. She’s the kind of dog who wants to be by your side, share your routine, and bring a little extra joy to your day.

If you’d like to meet Lucy, please fill out an application at http://caws.org/adoption-application! Dogs are not placed on a first-come, first-serve basis. We strive to find the perfect home for each animal. Applications may take up to 48 hours to process. All CAWS animals are fixed, microchipped, and vaccinated. Her adoption fee is $200. Additional adoption info

Since we make a lifetime commitment to any animal that comes into our program, we only adopt out animals to people in our area..

If you are interested in adopting a CAWS cat or dog, please fill out the online application at http://www.caws.org/application/, email adopt@caws.org or call 328-4731. For the most timely response applying online is recommended.

We respond as quickly as possible but as we are a volunteer based organization and do not have full time staff, we respond as quickly as possible.

Go meet their pets

CAWS does not have a conventional shelter facility - all CAWS animals waiting for adoption are in foster homes. The number of animals we can help find new homes for is closely linked to how many CAWS foster homes are available. For additional information regarding how you, too, can become a foster, please see our fostering page located on our web site!

CAWS volunteers bring cats and dogs to the PetSmart near 2100 South and 300 West in South Salt Lake on the third and fourth weekends of each month

We are also at the Sugarhouse PETCO (1165 Wilmington Ave) the first Saturday of each month.
