My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Sometimes rescue brings us face to face with things we`ll never fully understand.

Sweet Kanga was found about a month ago with wounds on her head and chin, and a terrible odor coming from her mouth. X-rays revealed the heartbreaking truth: she had been shot. The bullet traveled from the top of her head to her throat, fracturing her jaw - but miraculously sparing most of her skull. After weeks of antibiotics, soft food, and lots of love, Kanga has healed beautifully and is now ready for a forever home. She was adopted from the shelter last year, but after escaping the yard, her previous adopters declined to take her back.

Through it all, Kanga has been nothing short of amazing. She`s a joyful, goofy, and affectionate girl who`s stolen the hearts of everyone on the veterinary team. On her daily walks, she bounds on her walks with glee and offers the most adorably awkward play bows. Kanga is resilient, loving, and ready for a second chance. Could that be with you?

She is fully vetted (spayed, microchipped, vaccinated). Kanga is about 18 months old, weighs just shy of 80 lbs. Please let us know if you are interested in giving Kanga her forever home!

More about this shelter

The Tehama County Animal Care Center provides animal sheltering services for all of Tehama and Glenn Counties. We house and care for stray dogs, surrendered cats, and various other species. Adopt a new pet here!

The Tehama County Animal Care Center is owned by Tehama County and operated by the Department of Agriculture, Division of Animal Services.

Our mission is to practice and promote compassionate care of all animals, both in our care and in the community we serve.

We strive to reunite lost animals with their owners and find forever homes for animals whose owners cannot be located. We work closely with several rescues to transfer some of our animals to other locations so they can find homes in other areas. We are extremely proud of our high rate live release rate and incredibly grateful to the organizations and volunteers who make it possible!
