My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi, Im MATTIE and Im a neutered male Lhasa Apso/Poodle mix. Im very handsome, if I do say so myself. My good friends at Coastal Poodle Rescue are going to help me find a wonderful home since my Mommy had to go into an assisted living facility and I couldnt go with her. Im up to date with all my vaccines and tests, I had a dental and I`m on monthly heartworm and flea/tick prevention. I do need eye drops for dry eye but I dont make a fuss.

My foster Mom says that Im an absolute joy. Guess that means that Im a good boy! Im friendly, happy and energetic. She does say that I need an experienced, patient dog owner who will understand me and give me time to adjust to a new home. I wont eat dry food but really love Fresh Pet for small dogs or Tender Chicken recipe. You know what I really LOVE!!! My morning and evening walks; Im perfect on a leash as long as I walk on your right side and all the neighbors think Im a very handsome boy. I check all the mailboxes in the neighborhood in case another dog left a message for me. If I meet another dog on my walks, I get so excited and want to play. I love to ride in the car and maybe go to Home Depot or Dairy Queen. Im very well behaved in public.

I am so good when Im bathed and I dont mind being brushed. I never jump up on the furniture unless Im invited. Im not real crazy about sitting on your lap but I will sit close. I havent had one accident since coming into foster care. I will bark when I want to go outside. In fact, Ill bark at just about anything I want so my foster mom says I shouldnt be in a condo or apartment.

You know what would be really nice? Another doggie friend to play with. I can play by myself with my toys and throw them around, and I throw my chew stick or Milkbone around the house all day! Id really like a fenced backyard and very patient adults who will give me time to adjust to my new surroundings. Could that be you?

If you wish to be considered for MATTIE or any of our dogs, you are welcome to start the process by filling out an Adoption Application which can be found on our website at www.coastalpoodlerescue.org . On the homepage, click on `Adopt Now` on the right hand side to access the online application. Be sure to answer EVERY question on the application. If a question does not apply to you, enter N/A. For phone numbers that do not apply to you, enter all zeros for the phone number. If you do not answer every question, you will not be able to submit your application.

Please note that we only adopt to Florida residents because we require a home visit.

Additional adoption info

Our goal is to make wise and permanent placements for each poodle. Think about it: all of our dogs have been abandoned at least once in their lives.
Minimum donations are between $150 and $400, depending on the age and health of the dog, among other factors.
In most cases, this does not begin to cover the medical expenses incurred. All dogs are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and tested for heartworms and intestinal parasites.

What to Know About Our Adoptions:

NOTE: WE ALMOST NEVER HAVE PUPPIES AND VERY, VERY RARELY GET YOUNG DOGS!

A donation to Coastal Poodle Rescue, Inc. is required to adopt a poodle.
Home visits and interviews help us determine the kind of dog that will best fit your home environment and lifestyle.
Filling out an adoption profile does not guarantee adoption nor does it obligate you to adopt a poodle. Some dogs have special needs, so not all dogs will be a good match for every home.
Compatible poodles may not be immediately available; your patience is appreciated.
Most dogs in rescue are adults; puppies are rarely, if ever, available.
Most dogs in rescue are male...females are less common.
Remember, the more restrictions you place upon your desired dog (color, age, sex, etc.), the longer it will take to find a suitable poodle to match your environment.
By submitting an Adoption Profile, you are making a formal request to adopt a dog from Coastal Poodle Rescue, Inc. Please consider carefully before submitting your Profile. We encourage you to discuss the matter with all your family members.

More about this rescue

Coastal Poodle Rescue was officially established on March 8, 2004 by a small group of dedicated volunteers who, combined, have decades of experience with statewide and local rescue efforts.
The number of abandoned and abused poodles in our local area was increasing at a disturbing rate. Therefore, we decided the best way to assist these animals was to form a regional rescue group.

We are a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation. We are 100% volunteer-run, which means overhead costs are minimal and your donation is put to direct use for the good of the dogs. We do not receive government funds. We are entirely supported by charitable donations. We concentrate our activities in the eastern, coastal corridor of Florida from Duval to Dade County.
