My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Dog Name: Daisie Duke.

Breed: Mixed.

Sex: Female.

Age: 1 year old.

Weight: 40lbs.

Medical Needs: None.

Housebroken: No. She will have accidents. She will consistently pee outside but is not consistent with going outside. She is currently in a large playpen to give her more room than a normal crate which makes her accidents easier to clean than constantly scrubbing her crate tray. I feel her potty struggles are due to her being raised in the shelter, therefore it’s what she thinks is normal AND the fact that she gets spooked easily outside does not help. Once she’s spooked, inside she wants to go — she will not concentrate on anything else. She has come a long way with her fearfulness but she still has her cowardly moments.

Crate trained: Yes, goes right in and gets a treat. She is good in both — her crate and playpen. Only issue while in either is the issue.

Good in the car: Yes, she will just lay down.

Good on a leash: Pretty good. She is still scared of all things new so she will freeze sometimes but she will look to you to make sure she is safe.

Energy level: Medium. I’d describe it as puppy energy. She can get the major zoomies but can also snuggle up on the couch.

Need a fenced in yard: She would benefit from it. She’d love it for her zoomies but also it will keep her safe. Just in case her new life makes her nervous and she becomes a flight risk.

Dog Friendly: Yes! She loves other dogs.

If yes, does your foster need another dog in its adoptive homes? Not needed.

Cat Friendly? Unknown.

Kid Friendly: Yes, she’s a sweetheart.

If yes, what's the youngest child you'd recommend they be placed with? Any with proper supervision.

Special traits that make your foster special or that we need to know?

Daisie Duke is not only adorable but she is a very special girl. She snuggles up to you and it’s the absolute sweetest! It’s like she is thanking you for saving her life. She still does this and she has been here months now.

She is such a sweetheart but can be oh so timid. She takes some time to warm up and feel comfortable. Once you earn her trust she’s all in - you can take on the world together! If you’re someone who hasn’t quite earned her trust but she wants so bad to meet you she will be all tail wags and try to sneak getting closer to you. She came here scared of the world and startled easily but we are working on giving her the confidence that she needs to no longer be courage the cowardly dog. When she first arrived the washer, dryer, trash truck.. were just some of the things new and scary to her.

She no longer pancakes at all things new but she will freeze every now and then if startled by something she hasn’t heard before but getting better with each day! Since becoming more comfortable here her little personality has been shining! Daisie is such a happy, silly, fun loving pup! She loves all of her toys, playing ball, soft beds, cuddling, playing with her foster fur siblings, treats and meal times are her fav. She can get the zoomies outside and it’s absolutely adorable but inside she can snuggle up on the couch with you or play with her toys.

This cautious girl came from NC on the ride to freedom van all the way to Delaware to get a fresh start at life. Every day is a work in progress for her and everyday she gets more and more brave. If you think you can handle all of this sweetness — have the love and patience to help her continue to come out of her shell, fill out an app today! She will be forever grateful and reward you with the sweetest kisses.
