My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

At 7 years old, Zuzu is getting her first real taste of love and comfort. Rescued from a hoarding situation with eight other dogs, she’s quickly showing just how much affection she has to give. Zuzu is incredibly people-oriented—her favorite place in the world is your lap. Whether it’s cuddling, leaning in for pets, or just being close, she’s happiest by your side.

Zuzu has been a superstar at mealtimes and is doing great with her potty habits—no poop accidents in her run, and she's making big progress with pee as she settles in. She’s also starting to meet other dogs and seems friendly and curious, though she sometimes gets a little overwhelmed and excited. With some guidance and structure, she’ll learn how to make friends calmly and confidently.

She does get a bit anxious when alone, especially outside, and will chew things to self-soothe—so she’ll thrive in a home that can give her supervision, enrichment, and durable toys. Inside, with a comfy spot and someone to snuggle, she’s a total sweetheart who just wants to love and be loved.

Zuzu’s past may not have been ideal, but her future is wide open—and she’s so ready to find a family to call her own. Could you be her happy ending?

More about this rescue

Who We Are
2 Paws Up started in early 2007 as a small group helping to transport animals from the Harnett County Shelter to people who wanted to adopt but could not make it there themselves.

Since then, we have expanded our services to a full adoption agency. We vaccinate animals upon their arrival and get them any necessary health care, including spaying and neutering.

Any animal in our group will be spayed or neutered at the time of adoption. We cannot help the problem if animals keep mating!

We have recently been approved as a North Carolina Non-profit organization, and are waiting for our 501(c)3 paperwork to be finalized! Hooray!
Why We Are Different
As a future pet owner, you are probably looking for an adoption agency that is right for you. Each rescue group should have something that appeals to different groups of people, so everyone can find their future pet. This is why we think we are different:
• Our adoption fees vary between animals. We do not charge you for something we didn’t do. For example, if a dog came into the shelter already neutered, the cost of that neuter will NOT be included in his adoption fee.
• Our main focus is shelter pets. Most rescue groups focus on stray animals before they end up in the shelter. We try to help as many animals that are in imminent danger of being put down. We do accept animals from elsewhere as well, but high-kill shelters are our main focus.
