Hola my name is Chulo, I am a one year old DNA tested Male yellow sided green cheek conure! I came to the rescue after somebody put out a plea, begging someone to take me because they didn’t know what to do with me and were considering harming me. It was unclear what they meant, and what their intentions were, but multiple people reached out to my rescuer and begged them to contact my Previous Owner so she did. After talking to my Previous Owner for two days, she was told that I could not be kept with any other birds because I was so aggressive and he tried to handle me for months, but I was too aggressive to be handled, and he was either going to release me into the wild to fend for myself or put me out of my misery And never specified what he meant by that. Without hesitation, my rescuer drove a couple hours to get to me. He had me in a cereal box and sent me with her no food or water or instructions on my care. Just happy to get rid of me unknowing if it’s true or not, she was told that my original breeder said I killed two birds, but after doing some investigation and health evaluations and blood tests, it turns out that I was in fact a male, but I was barely a year old! Thankfully, I am disease tested and cleared across the bar, 100% healthy and since coming to the rescue, I have shown no aggression towards other birds, and I even had the opportunity to meet beans, and although he doesn’t believe in personal space, I do enjoy his company and I absolutely love spending time with Coturnix quails I find their company, very relaxing. For the first few weeks, my rescuer spent a lot of one-on-one time with me and discovered that I’m not aggressive I am fearful and there’s no way to confirm how the first year of my life truly was but I am craving that connection with someone. I am very curious and I’m very willing to learn and trust, but I need one on one time with someone to solidify that bond, I absolutely love taking baths. I love being sprayed with a Mister and I love birds Street bistro! It is my newest obsession. I am extremely quiet until I want attention and then I will call to you and fly to the nearest perch just to be in your presence, but don’t leave without me because I will follow you. Like any bird that has gone through a somewhat traumatic past it will take time and consistency to gain my trust, but once you have my trust I’m super cuddly I don’t nip or bite I just melt for head scratches.

Update: my new favorite spot is right on your chest once I feel safe with you. I just love to be around people I will subtlety ask for kisses but I’ll make you work for it but once im comfortable with you I’m the perfect little companion!

I am confident that somebody will read my story and be willing to take me on and make me a member of their flock, although I’m not housed with other birds, I am completely fine being on my own or being in the company of quails. My flight feathers have not all grown out yet, but I still can fly very short distances so do not trust me outside unleashed. I am a really good bird and I am very curious and love head scratches and I will do absolutely anything for a pine nut! so if you think I would make a good addition to your family, please contact my rescuer with the information in my profile and schedule a time to meet with me. If you’re interested in adopting me, please bring a carrier travel crate or backpack. I look forward to meeting you.

Additional adoption info

My adoption process is incredibly simple and stress-free because I want my Adopter’s main focus to be bonding with their new Family Member. All animals approved for adoption have been checked by a licensed veterinarian and have been cleared healthy and ready for adoption. It is not my policy to adopt out any animals if they are sick and have not undergone multiple health evaluations, training, and rehabilitation.

Go meet their pets

We are located in Palmdale, but occasionally get invited to adoption events at the Hermosa Beach Festival or the Palos Verdes Fourth of July Festival.

More about this rescue

My mission will always be to give those in need that were discarded, abandon, abused, and neglected The second chance they so desperately deserve. The ones who lost faith and trust in people and who just need someone who won’t give up on them, and it is my deepest goal to match each family with the animal that suits their family dynamic. I of all people understand that life can throw unexpected curveballs that you’re not prepared for but it doesn’t mean these angels don’t deserve the absolute best life we could give them in the short amount of time they are here with us. Although my family is broken, it is my deepest wish to complete yours. I have a unique role as a rescuer because I have been a rescuer, licensed domestic and exotic rehabilitator and exotic animal educator as well as concierge vet for low income families for 23 years now and I don’t see myself stopping anytime soon. It is truly my calling, and I have dedicated my life to being the voice, caretaker and rehabilitator for the voiceless angels in need of a second chance.
